AIO-6 Compass — North-Up Mode (What It Is & How to Use)

North-Up keeps the map fixed with true north at the top. Your on-screen arrow (heading indicator) rotates to show the direction you’re facing. If the arrow points to the right, you’re facing east; if it points up, you’re facing north.

Applies to: AIO-6

What “North-Up” Means

  • Map orientation: Always fixed with north at the top (doesn’t rotate with you).
  • Your heading: The arrow rotates to reflect your real-time facing direction.
  • Reading it:
    • Arrow up = you’re facing north.
    • Arrow right = east.
    • Arrow down = south.
    • Arrow left = west.
You adjust your body/bike heading to align with the arrow—the map stays still.

When to Use North-Up

  • You want a consistent reference (north is always up) for quick mental mapping.
  • Hiking/off-road: frequent checks against a paper map/compass.
  • Planning turns ahead without the map spinning at intersections.

Alternative: Heading-Up (map rotates so the direction you’re moving is at the top) is better if you prefer the map to match your forward view at all times.

Using North-Up on AIO-6

  1. Open Maps/Navigation on AIO-6.
  2. Tap Orientation (or Map settings) → select North-Up.
  3. Watch the arrow: rotate the bike or your body until the arrow points toward your intended direction (e.g., up for north).

Tip: If your destination lies at the top of the screen in North-Up, turn until your arrow also points up, then move forward.

Accuracy Tips

  • Calibrate sensors if the arrow drifts: go to Settings → Sensors/Compass → Calibrate, then follow the on-screen figure-8 or rotation prompts.
  • Keep the device away from magnets/steel (mounts, phone cases, bars with strong magnets) that can distort the compass.
  • Ensure GPS lock outdoors for stable heading when moving; at a standstill, heading relies more on the internal compass.
