Install the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle for CHIGEE

Check fitment, install the cradle, confirm the lock indicator and use the emergency release if electrical unlocking fails.

The BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle holds a compatible CHIGEE Display and releases it without a mechanical key. With the motorcycle on, hold the unlock button for 2 seconds and remove the display within 10 seconds.

Before you start

Use the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle with an AIO-5 Play for BMW or an AIO-6 Max or AIO-6 LTE fitted with BMW Quick-Release Module.

  • A compatible original BMW LIN power connector

  • A suitable Ø12–16 mm cockpit crossbar and the supplied clamp

  • Enough clearance for the display, handlebars and cables

  • The supplied disassembly tool kit, including the T6 Torx tool for emergency release

Important: The cradle uses 12 V DC. Do not connect the cradle to a 24 V system.

The cradle can replace a compatible mechanical BMW cradle where the required connector, crossbar clamp and space are available. The K1600GT with a 10.25-inch TFT lacks the required space.

Install the cradle

Check the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle installation and wiring against the product manual for your motorcycle before applying power.

  1. Choose a cockpit position with clearance throughout the handlebars’ steering movement.

  2. Remove the 4 clamp screws and position the supplied clamp around the Ø12–16 mm crossbar.

  3. Reinstall and securely tighten the clamp screws.

  4. Connect the cradle to the compatible original BMW LIN power connector.

  5. If your supported motorcycle uses the 18-pin communication connection, connect it to the compatible BMW infotainment interface specified for that motorcycle.

  6. Fit the CHIGEE Display fully into the cradle. Check that the display is secure and the latch-status window is green.

The cradle has a 70 cm cable and a 3 A fuse. Confirm routing and connection points using the official cradle product and installation information.

Lock and remove the CHIGEE Display

Use the latch-status window on the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle to check whether the display is locked.

Window color

Meaning

Action

Green

Fully locked

Gently pull the display to confirm it is secure.

Red

Released or unlocked

Refit and lock the display before riding.

Half red and half green

Not fully seated

Remove and refit the display until the window is fully green.

Important: Do not ride with a red or partly red latch-status window.

Remove the display with motorcycle power on

The BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle needs power for normal electrical unlocking.

  1. Turn on the motorcycle.

  2. Press and hold the cradle unlock button for 2 seconds.

  3. Release the button.

  4. Press the release lever and remove the CHIGEE Display within 10 seconds.

The cradle locks again if you do not remove the display within 10 seconds. Turning on the motorcycle does not automatically unlock the display.

Use the emergency release without power

The BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle stays locked without power. Use the manual release only when normal electrical unlocking is unavailable, such as with a dead motorcycle battery.

  1. Use the supplied T6 Torx tool to open the emergency-release cover.

  2. Move and hold the internal override pin in the unlock position.

  3. While holding the pin, press the release lever and remove the CHIGEE Display.

  4. Refit the cover and check the cradle before using the motorcycle again.

BMW data and Wonder Wheel control

The BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle passes through the data and control signals supported by your motorcycle and CHIGEE Display. It cannot add missing sensors, signals or factory options.

Native Wonder Wheel control requires Preparation for Navigation System (SA 272) on supported motorcycles. Check the motorcycle build sheet or ask a BMW dealer to confirm the option using the vehicle identification number (VIN).

Available vehicle data depends on the BMW model, year, sensors and factory configuration. If fitment or unlocking is unclear, contact us with your display model, motorcycle details and latch-window status.

FAQs

Can I fit the cradle without an existing BMW Nav Prep cradle?

You can fit the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle if your motorcycle has the compatible connector, crossbar and space. An existing mechanical cradle is not always required.

Can I use another mounting bracket?

Use the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle with its supplied Ø12–16 mm crossbar clamp. Other mounting systems are not supported.

Will the cradle provide every BMW reading?

The cradle passes through data supplied by the motorcycle. It cannot create readings the motorcycle does not transmit.
