If your Android Auto wireless connection drops from time to time, it’s important to understand that the CHIGEE Display itself will not actively disconnect from your phone.
How Android Auto Connects to CHIGEE
The CHIGEE Display uses a wireless Android Auto connection powered by screen mirroring technology. Here's how it works:
- Bluetooth handshake: Your phone pairs with the CHIGEE device to establish a basic connection.
- Wi-Fi Direct kicks in: This handles the high-bandwidth audio, video, and control data in real time.
🔁 Both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi must remain active for Android Auto to stay connected.
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Follow these steps in order to fix frequent disconnections:
Because 5GHz Wi-Fi channel rules and interference vary by country, phone brand, and environment, performance can differ from rider to rider. Test different channels one by one. Performance varies by region and phone model; keep the channel that offers the most stable connection.
Prerequisites:
This feature requires specific firmware (e.g., v1.7.5+ for AIO-6, v1.7.7+ for AIO-5 Play).
Available on Global versions only (not available on Japan models).
Step 1: Verify Your Connection History
Has Android Auto worked with your CHIGEE display before?
Step 2: Essential Initial Checks
Step 2A: Check for Interference from Other Bluetooth Devices
Make sure your phone is not connected to other Bluetooth devices like smartwatches, BMW TFT displays, or smart home systems. These can interfere with the CHIGEE connection.
- Open Bluetooth Settings on your Android phone.
- Forget or unpair any connected devices such as smartwatches or BMW TFT
- Restart your phone
- Reconnect only to CHIGEE and test Android Auto stability
Step 2B: Clear Android Auto’s Cache
Clearing the cache can resolve many glitches. If you don’t, temporary files may accumulate over time and disrupt how Android Auto works.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Android Auto.
- Select Storage, then Clear Cache.
- You can also restart your phone as a quick way to clear temporary files.
Step 2C: Reset Network Settings
Resetting your phone’s network settings can remove outdated configurations or incorrect connection data that may interfere with Android Auto.
From our experience, frequent Android Auto disconnections are often caused by a Wi-Fi or Bluetooth channel being occupied by other connections. Resetting clears these conflicts.
- Go to: Settings > System > Reset Options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth
- (The exact location of this option may vary depending on your Android phone model. Please refer to your device’s settings menu to locate the correct reset option.)
- ⚠️ This will remove all paired Bluetooth devices and saved Wi-Fi networks. You will need to re-pair and reconnect after completing this step.
Step 2D: Configuration & Permissions
- Disable battery optimization for Android Auto:
- Settings > Apps > Android Auto > Battery > Unrestricted
- Allow new vehicle connections:
- Settings > Connected Devices > Connection Preferences > Android Auto
- Uninstall or disable SmartThings or similar smart home apps
- These app often interfere with Android Auto.
- Turn off personal hotspot on your phone—it disrupts Wi-Fi Direct.
- Turn off VPNs
- VPN services may block local traffic needed for Android Auto.
- Enable “Allow apps while screen is locked”
- Open the Android Auto app.
- Tap the Menu (three lines or gear icon).
- Go to Settings.
- Enable it.
- Disable Wi-Fi acceleration or smart switching:
- Settings > WiFi > Advanced > Network Acceleration
- Disable options like “Auto-connect to public networks” or “Switch to better network”
- Device compatibility check
- Not all phones support Android Auto. International versions of Huawei, Vivo, and Oppo typically do not support it due to lack of Google services.
- Disable heavy background apps
- Streaming or syncing apps may interfere with Android Auto.
- Update your software:
- Android OS
- Android Auto app — please use the stable version. Do not use Android Auto Beta. Make sure you are not enrolled in the Beta Program.
- Google Play Services
Step 3: Advanced Wi-Fi Features That Can Break Android Auto
Some built-in Wi-Fi features can cause Android Auto to disconnect unexpectedly. Disable the following if they exist on your device:
- Hotspot 2.0 (Wi-Fi 2.0)
- Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced → Toggle Hotspot 2.0 off
- Auto-Switch to Mobile Data
- Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced → Toggle Switch to mobile data off
- STA/STA Concurrency and Co-Channel Avoidance
- May be located in Developer Options or under Advanced Wi-Fi settings on newer Android versions.
Some Samsung Galaxy S22/S23/S24/S25 users reported Android Auto works more reliably after adjusting Wi-Fi settings:
Disable Wi-Fi Calling
Turn off Auto on/off for Wi-Fi
Enable Real-time data prioritization
Enable Suspicious network detection
Disable Wi-Fi power saving mode
Enable Wi-Fi scanning
Disable Wi-Fi Safe Mode
Enable Wi-Fi scan throttling
Step 4: Adjust Advanced Bluetooth Settings
Bluetooth configuration issues can cause audio dropouts or connection instability during wireless Android Auto use. Adjust the following settings to improve stability:
Disable Bluetooth A2DP Hardware Offload
Go to Settings > System > Developer Options.
Toggle Bluetooth A2DP hardware offload to OFF.
Restart your phone after making this change.
Disable Bluetooth LE Audio Mode (especially for newer phones like Galaxy S25/S24 with Bluetooth 5.4)
Enable Developer Options
In Developer Options, scroll to the Networking section.
Select Bluetooth LE Audio Mode and set it to Disable.
Restart your phone.
After confirming the above adjustments, be sure to Turn Off Developer Options entirely:
Go to Settings > System > Developer Options and disable it. Developer mode itself may affect wireless stability.
Step 5: Reset the CHIGEE Display
Clear cached data or corrupted connections on the CHIGEE device:
Step 6: Wi-Fi Reconnection Fix
- ❌ Do NOT connect to your own Wi-Fi while using Android Auto.
- Doing so may override or disrupt the CHIGEE Wi-Fi Direct channel.
Step 7: Clear Old Bluetooth Pairings, then Pair Again
Clear Old Bluetooth Pairings
- Open Bluetooth Settings on your Android phone.
- Forget or unpair all CHIGEE-related devices.
- Restart your phone to clear any residual pairing issues.
After completing the previous steps:
- On CHIGEE:
- Car Link > Android Auto
- On your phone:
- Turn on Bluetooth
- Select and pair with the CHIGEE device
- Accept pairing requests on both devices.
You should now have a stable Android Auto session. If the problem still occurs frequently, try reinstalling Android Auto and Google Maps.
Note: If your Android Auto always disconnects in the same location and the drop frequency is consistently high, it is likely due to a strong external interference source in that area. Physical interference sources cannot be resolved through settings or device changes.
Still Having Trouble?
If you’ve tried everything and it still disconnects every few minutes, post the following to the
Chigee Group on Facebook or open a trouble ticket.
- Screenshots of your Phone’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth screens taken at the exact moment the Android Auto connection drops
- Phone brand/model
- Android version
- CHIGEE device model
- CHIGEE firmware version
- Frequency of disconnections
- Connected devices (TFT, watches, helmets, etc.)
