Wireless CarPlay loses internet when your iPhone stops using cellular data, because the CHIGEE-XXXX Wi-Fi link to the CHIGEE Display doesn't provide internet. You might see the map stop moving after your iPhone locks, or music and podcasts buffer, and everything works again when you unlock the iPhone or disconnect CarPlay.
Try these fixes first
Try these fixes in order, and test CarPlay on the CHIGEE Display after each one:
Cellular data: go to Settings > Cellular, make sure Cellular Data is turned on, and check that your iPhone shows a 4G or 5G signal. Your iPhone needs cellular data for internet while CarPlay is connected.
Low Power Mode: go to Settings > Battery and turn off Low Power Mode.
Low Data Mode: go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Data Mode and choose Standard. If Low Data Mode also appears when you tap the info button next to CHIGEE-XXXX in Settings > Wi-Fi, turn it off there too.
VPN and filters: temporarily turn off VPN, ad-blocker and content filter profiles, because they can block background data when your iPhone locks.
If the problem continues
If CarPlay on the CHIGEE Display still has no internet or the map is still frozen, find the situation below that matches.
Only one maps app freezes
If only one maps app freezes on CarPlay, for example Google Maps but not Apple Maps or Waze, update or reinstall that app. Then go to Settings > Apps, tap the app, turn on Background App Refresh, and allow the app to use your location. If every maps app freezes, the cause is your iPhone's data connection, so continue with the checks below.
The problem started after an iOS update
If CarPlay lost internet right after an iOS update or a major settings change, the update is the likely cause. Check Settings > General > Software Update for a newer iOS version. You can also report the problem to Apple Support with your iPhone model, iOS version and what happens, for example "Wireless CarPlay has no internet and Maps freezes after the iPhone locks."
Forget CarPlay and pair again
To set up wireless CarPlay with the CHIGEE Display again:
On your iPhone, go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your CHIGEE Display and tap Forget This Car.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth, tap the info button next to your CHIGEE Display and tap Forget This Device.
Pair your iPhone with the CHIGEE Display again and start CarPlay.
Update your iPhone, apps and CHIGEE Display
Update iOS, your maps and music apps, and the CHIGEE Display firmware, then restart the CHIGEE Display after the firmware update. To update the CHIGEE Display, see Update CHIGEE Display firmware over Wi-Fi.
Reset network settings
As a last step, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings on your iPhone. This removes saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, so you'll need to join them again. Then pair your iPhone with the CHIGEE Display again and start CarPlay.
Test with another iPhone
Try CarPlay on the same CHIGEE Display with another iPhone, ideally on a similar iOS version. If the other iPhone has internet on CarPlay, the cause is most likely your iPhone's iOS version or settings. If both iPhones lose internet, the cause may be the CHIGEE Display firmware or local interference, so contact us.
Keep your iPhone online while you ride
These habits help your iPhone keep internet while CarPlay runs on the CHIGEE Display:
Keep your iPhone unlocked for 10–20 seconds right after CarPlay connects.
Avoid battery-saver apps and automations that limit data when your iPhone locks.
If home or work Wi-Fi joins automatically while you ride, forget that network or turn off Auto-Join for it.
