Connect your phone to a CHIGEE Display with CarPlay or Android Auto

First-time wireless CarPlay and Android Auto setup on the CHIGEE Display, automatic reconnection and switching between two phones.

You can show your phone on the CHIGEE Display with wireless CarPlay on an iPhone or wireless Android Auto on an Android phone. After you connect once, the CHIGEE Display reconnects to your phone automatically each time it starts.

Before you start

Before you connect your phone to the CHIGEE Display, check the following:

  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi: turn on both on your phone. Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto use Bluetooth for pairing and the CHIGEE Display's 5 GHz Wi-Fi for data. 5 GHz here is a Wi-Fi band, not 5G cellular service.

  • Android phones: wireless Android Auto needs Android 11 or later, 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Google Play services. See Which phones work with the CHIGEE Display?

  • Car Link: you connect your phone on the Car Link screen of the CHIGEE Display. If the home screen shows the label Car Link, tap it. If the home screen shows only icons, tap the leftmost icon in the bottom bar.

Connect an iPhone with CarPlay

To connect your iPhone to the CHIGEE Display with wireless CarPlay for the first time:

  1. On the CHIGEE Display home screen, tap Car Link, or the leftmost icon in the bottom bar if the home screen shows only icons. If Android Auto is selected, select CarPlay.

  2. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the CHIGEE-XXXX name shown on the CHIGEE Display.

  3. Tap Pair, allow the requests on your iPhone and choose to use CarPlay. If Wi-Fi is off, tap Turn On when your iPhone asks.

  4. Wait for CarPlay to start. The CarPlay Home screen appears on the CHIGEE Display.

To learn how the connection works and which iPhone settings keep it stable, see How wireless CarPlay connects to your CHIGEE Display.

Connect an Android phone with Android Auto

An Android phone connects to the CHIGEE Display only when Android Auto is selected. To connect your Android phone for the first time:

  1. On the CHIGEE Display home screen, tap Car Link, or the leftmost icon in the bottom bar if the home screen shows only icons.

  2. Select the Android Auto icon. On the AIO-6, the Car Link screen opens in CarPlay mode, and the Android Auto icon is to the right of the CarPlay icon. An Android phone won't connect while CarPlay is selected.

  3. On your phone, turn on Bluetooth and select the CHIGEE-XXXX name shown on the CHIGEE Display.

  4. Accept the Bluetooth pairing request and any Android Auto permission prompts on your phone.

  5. Wait for the connection to finish. The Android Auto screen appears on the CHIGEE Display.

You only need to select Android Auto the first time you connect.

Automatic reconnection

After the first connection, the CHIGEE Display remembers your phone. Each time the CHIGEE Display starts, it reconnects to CarPlay or Android Auto automatically, as long as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned on on your phone.

To turn off automatic reconnection, open Car Link, tap the Settings icon and turn off Auto connection.

Switch between two phones

The CHIGEE Display can remember more than one phone, but it connects to one phone at a time. When it starts, it reconnects to the phone you used last. To use your other phone instead:

  1. On the phone you used last, turn off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, so the CHIGEE Display can't reconnect to it.

  2. On the CHIGEE Display, open Car Link and select CarPlay for an iPhone or Android Auto for an Android phone.

  3. On your other phone, turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and wait for it to connect. If you haven't connected this phone before, follow the steps for CarPlay or Android Auto above.

The CHIGEE Display now connects to this phone first the next time it starts.

If it doesn't work

If your phone doesn't connect to the CHIGEE Display, check these common causes first:

  • Wrong mode selected: in Car Link, select CarPlay for an iPhone or Android Auto for an Android phone.

  • Old pairing record: if the connection fails, for example after you change phones, open the Car Link settings, delete the old record under Pairing Records, and connect again.
