CarPlay or Android Auto feels slow on the CHIGEE Display

Why touch response is slower than on your phone during CarPlay or Android Auto, and settings that make it smoother.

CarPlay and Android Auto can respond more slowly on the CHIGEE Display than on your phone. This delay is expected and isn't a fault: your phone runs the CarPlay or Android Auto screen, so every touch travels from the CHIGEE Display to your phone and back.

Why there's a delay

When the CHIGEE Display shows CarPlay or Android Auto, your phone controls the screen, not the CHIGEE Display. Each touch works like this:

  1. The CHIGEE Display sends your touch to your phone.

  2. Your phone processes the touch and sends the updated screen back to the CHIGEE Display.

This back-and-forth can cause a noticeable delay, especially with older or slower phones, or when your phone uses a lot of data or runs apps in the background. All wireless CarPlay and Android Auto systems have this kind of delay.

Make CarPlay or Android Auto smoother

To improve how quickly CarPlay or Android Auto responds on the CHIGEE Display, try the following:

  • Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi: on the CHIGEE Display, open the Car Link screen, tap the Settings icon and select 5G instead of 2.4G.

  • High frame rate: turn on High Frame Rate in the Car Link settings for smoother CarPlay and Android Auto. See Enable High-Frame-Rate Mode.

  • Phone apps: close apps you aren't using, and avoid running demanding apps in the background while you use CarPlay or Android Auto.

  • Wi-Fi channel: if the picture stutters in busy areas, switch the CHIGEE Display's 5 GHz Wi-Fi channel. See Manual Wi-Fi channel switching for more stable phone mirroring.

  • Another phone: test with a newer or faster phone to see whether the response improves.
