BMW Wonder Wheel control not working

Check Nav Prep status, cradle contacts and CHIGEE settings when the BMW Wonder Wheel won't control your CHIGEE Display.

If the BMW Wonder Wheel does not control your CHIGEE Display, check whether your motorcycle supports native control, then inspect the BMW Nav Prep cradle and the CHIGEE remote-control setting. The cause may be the cradle contacts, configuration or BMW electrical system.

Check the TFT~Nav logo

Start by checking whether the BMW TFT dashboard shows the “TFT~Nav” logo. This helps identify which control setup to check next.

If the TFT~Nav logo appears

  1. Long-press the BMW Wonder Wheel “Menu Up” button until the screen changes to the Navigation interface.

  2. On your CHIGEE Display, open Settings > Features / Peripheral > RC (remote controller). Select Nav if you are using native BMW control, then enable Vertical Scrolling if you need full scrolling control.

  3. If you use a CGRC CAN or CGRC LIN module, set RC Type to CGRC instead.

BMW motorcycles with analog dashboards do not show the TFT~Nav logo and do not support this native-control method.

If the TFT~Nav logo does not appear

Continue with the cradle and compatibility checks below.

Check the BMW Nav Prep cradle

  1. Make sure your CHIGEE Display is firmly seated in the BMW navigation cradle.

  2. Use the BMW cradle key to lock the display in place.

  3. Check whether the TFT~Nav logo appears after the display is seated and locked.

If the logo appears only after you press the display firmly into place or lock it, the cradle contacts may be worn or corroded. The cradle may provide power without reliably transmitting control data. Have the contacts inspected and consider replacing the cradle if the problem persists.

Confirm that your motorcycle has a genuine BMW Nav Prep 5 or Nav Prep 6 cradle. Aftermarket or modified cradles can cause power or data communication issues.

Check the BMW setup and electrical system

  1. Test your CHIGEE Display on another BMW motorcycle with a known-working navigation cradle, if one is available.

  2. Ask a BMW dealer to check battery voltage, wiring and the motorcycle’s electrical system if the problem continues.

  3. Ask the dealer to verify whether Preparation for Navigation Device (SA 272 / Option 272) is activated and whether the BMW Nav Prep firmware needs an update. Official BMW information explains the role of this option in operating the Navigator through the BMW Motorrad Multi-Controller.

You can share the BMW ISTA activation video with your BMW dealer or service center. The demonstration begins at 2:23. The dealer should verify the setup for your specific motorcycle.

Note: SA 272 / Option 272 relates to Wonder Wheel control. It is not required for native BMW data reading.

If SA 272 cannot be activated or native cradle control is unavailable, a CGRC CAN module may provide an alternative control interface, subject to motorcycle compatibility.
