CarPlay — No Internet / Maps Frozen (How to Fix)

CarPlay — No Internet / Maps Frozen (How to Fix)

Wireless CarPlay uses Bluetooth (handshake) + Wi-Fi (CarPlay link). The CarPlay Wi-Fi does not provide internet; your iPhone must keep using cellular data. If CarPlay “has no internet” and Maps is frozen/not moving, follow the steps below.

Symptoms

  • Maps app stuck / location not updating after the iPhone locks
  • Music/Podcast buffering or stalling with CarPlay connected
  • Normal again when you unlock the iPhone or disconnect CarPlay

If the issue began right after a recent iOS update or major settings change (e.g., iOS 26):
Contact Apple Support directly to confirm known behavior and request a fix/optimization. Provide iPhone model, iOS version, and repro (“Wireless CarPlay has no internet; Maps freezes after lock screen”).
You can still try the fixes below.

Fixes (do in order; test after each)

  1. Turn Off Low Power Mode
iPhone → Settings → Battery → Low Power Mode OFF.

  2. Disable Low Data Mode
    • iPhone → Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data Options → Data Mode → Standard.
    • iPhone → Settings → Wi-Fi → (i on CHIGEE Wi-Fi) → Low Data Mode OFF.
  3. Disable VPN/Ad-block/Filter profiles (temporarily)
These often restrict background data when the screen locks.

  4. Confirm iPhone uses Cellular for internet
CarPlay Wi-Fi is transport only. Ensure Cellular Data is ON (4G/5G icon visible) and works while locked.

  5. Forget & Re-add CarPlay

    • iPhone → Settings → General → CarPlay → [CHIGEE] → Forget This Car.
    • iPhone → Settings → Bluetooth → [CHIGEE] → Forget.
    • Re-pair from CHIGEE Display.
  6. Update everything
Update iOS, your Maps/Music apps, and CHIGEE Display firmware.

  7. Reset Network Settings (last resort)
iPhone → Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Reset → Reset Network Settings.
    Reconnect Bluetooth & CarPlay.

Isolate the Cause (swap tests)

  • Try a different iPhone (friend/family, similar iOS if possible).
    • If other iPhone works fine, the issue is likely your iPhone’s iOS/settings.
    • If both iPhones fail, investigate CHIGEE firmware or local interference.
  • Try a different maps app (Apple Maps ↔ Google Maps / Waze).

    • If only one app freezes, update/reinstall that app and check its Background App Refresh & Location permissions.
    • If all map apps freeze, it’s a system/CarPlay path issue—continue with the steps above and contact Apple if post-update.

Stability Tips

  • Keep iPhone unlocked for 10–20 s right after connecting to let services settle.
  • Avoid aggressive battery savers/automations that restrict data on lock.
  • If a home/office Wi-Fi tries to auto-join while driving, Forget it temporarily.
  • Reboot the CHIGEE Display after firmware updates.

Collect Info (helps Apple/CHIGEE diagnose)

  • iPhone model + iOS version (note if started after update, e.g., iOS 26)
  • CHIGEE Display model + firmware version
  • Whether the issue appears only after screen lock
  • Which apps freeze
  • Swap-test results (other iPhone / other map apps)
