The CHIGEE Display can switch CarPlay and Android Auto between day and night modes based on the light around it. To use this, set CarPlay or Android Auto to Automatic. On models other than the AIO-6 LTE and AIO-6 Max, also turn on Auto Brightness on the CHIGEE Display.
How automatic day and night mode works
When automatic day and night mode is on, the CHIGEE Display measures the light around it for a while, then switches CarPlay or Android Auto:
Bright light: switches to day mode.
Low light: switches to night mode.
Because the CHIGEE Display measures the light over a period of time, it doesn't switch the moment the light changes.
Turn on automatic day and night mode
What you need to turn on depends on your CHIGEE Display model:
AIO-6 LTE and AIO-6 Max: set CarPlay or Android Auto to Automatic. The Auto Brightness switch on the CHIGEE Display doesn't affect day and night mode.
Other models, such as the AIO-5 Play, AIO-5 Lite and AIO-5 EVO: set CarPlay or Android Auto to Automatic, and turn on Auto Brightness on the CHIGEE Display.
The same applies to HiCar.
Turn on Auto Brightness on the CHIGEE Display
On the CHIGEE Display, go to Settings > Display > Brightness and turn on Auto Brightness.
Set CarPlay to Automatic
On the CHIGEE Display, open Settings in CarPlay, tap Appearance and choose Automatic. If you choose Always Dark, CarPlay stays in the dark theme.
Set Android Auto to Automatic
On your phone, open the Android Auto settings. The path varies by phone brand, for example Settings > Connected devices > Android Auto.
Tap Day/night mode for maps. On some Android Auto versions, this setting is called Theme.
Choose Automatic.

Do I need to turn on Auto Brightness on the CHIGEE Display?
You need it on all models except the AIO-6 LTE and AIO-6 Max. On the AIO-6 LTE and AIO-6 Max, setting CarPlay or Android Auto to Automatic is enough, and the Auto Brightness switch doesn't change day and night mode.
Why does CarPlay or Android Auto turn dark during the day?
The CHIGEE Display switches to night mode when it detects low light for a while, for example when something covers the light sensor. Check that nothing covers the light sensor. Also check that Appearance in CarPlay isn't set to Always Dark, and that Day/night mode for maps in Android Auto isn't set to Night. Some navigation apps, such as Waze, also have their own day and night map setting.
Why doesn't CarPlay or Android Auto switch between day and night?
An automatic setting is usually turned off. Check that Appearance in CarPlay or Day/night mode for maps in Android Auto is set to Automatic. On models other than the AIO-6 LTE and AIO-6 Max, also check that Auto Brightness is turned on in Settings > Display > Brightness on the CHIGEE Display. After the light changes, wait a moment, because the CHIGEE Display measures the light for a while before it switches.
