WhatsApp not working with CarPlay or Android Auto

Troubleshoot WhatsApp messages and calls on CarPlay, or stop message notifications from interrupting Android Auto music.

WhatsApp problems on the CHIGEE Display come from settings on your phone or from WhatsApp itself. On CarPlay, WhatsApp can fail to send messages or make calls. On Android Auto, a WhatsApp message can stop your music without starting it again.

WhatsApp can't send messages or make calls on CarPlay

When you use WhatsApp through CarPlay on the CHIGEE Display, WhatsApp can show "Something went wrong, please try again." and fail to send messages or make calls, even after you reconnect your iPhone. The usual causes are missing Face ID permission for WhatsApp, Siri being turned off for WhatsApp, or an old version of iOS or WhatsApp. To fix it, try these steps in order:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp and make sure Face ID (or Touch ID) is turned on. Without it, WhatsApp may not send messages through CarPlay.

  2. Turn on Siri for WhatsApp. Open Siri settings (Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri or Settings > Siri, depending on your iPhone and iOS version), tap WhatsApp in the list of apps, and turn on the options that let Siri use WhatsApp.

  3. Update iOS in Settings > General > Software Update, and update WhatsApp from the App Store.

  4. Turn Siri off and on again in Siri settings, then restart your iPhone and try WhatsApp on CarPlay again.

WhatsApp messages stop your music on Android Auto

On Android Auto, when a WhatsApp message arrives, your music or audio stops, the message is read aloud, and your music or streaming radio doesn't start again afterward. This is a known WhatsApp issue, not a CHIGEE Display issue. To stop the interruption:

  1. In the Android Auto settings on your phone, remove WhatsApp from the apps enabled for Android Auto.

  2. Report the problem to WhatsApp, so that WhatsApp can fix it in a later update.
