Pair your Bluetooth headset with your phone to hear music, calls and navigation prompts while you use CarPlay or Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display. Android Auto also uses a headset connection to the CHIGEE Display for microphone input.
How sound reaches your headset
With CarPlay and Android Auto, sound travels from your phone to your headset over Bluetooth. The CHIGEE Display doesn't play, pass on or mix phone audio:
CarPlay: your headset pairs with your iPhone only, and your iPhone sends music, navigation prompts and calls to it.
Android Auto: your headset pairs with your phone for all audio, and with the CHIGEE Display for microphone input only.
A second phone: the CHIGEE Display doesn't pass audio from another phone to your headset. To hear calls or music from a second phone, pair that phone directly with your headset, if your headset supports two phones.
For music and volume questions, see Music and volume FAQs for CarPlay and Android Auto.
Connect a headset for CarPlay
For CarPlay, pair your Bluetooth headset with your iPhone only. The CHIGEE Display doesn't need its own Bluetooth connection to your headset.
Put your headset in pairing mode and pair it with your iPhone in Settings > Bluetooth.
Connect your iPhone to the CHIGEE Display with CarPlay.
Play music or start navigation. You hear the sound in your headset.
To start Siri from your headset, see Use Siri with your headset on CarPlay. If you ride a BMW with a TFT, see Use CarPlay with a BMW TFT and ConnectedRide.
Connect a headset for Android Auto
For Android Auto, your headset connects to both your phone and the CHIGEE Display:
Phone to headset: music, navigation prompts and phone calls.
CHIGEE Display to headset: microphone input for voice commands and the assistant.
To connect your headset to the CHIGEE Display for Android Auto:
On the CHIGEE Display, go to Settings > Peripherals > Headset.
Select your headset from the list and pair it with the CHIGEE Display.
Keep the headset paired with your phone for audio.
The CHIGEE Display connects to one headset at a time. Voice control through a Bluetooth headset doesn't work with every headset and phone, so try the dual connection to see whether it works with yours. For setup and testing steps, see Use Android Auto voice input with your CHIGEE Display.
If voice input doesn't work
Headsets differ in how many Bluetooth connections they support at the same time and in how they handle a microphone connection to a second device. Because there are many models and firmware versions, we can't keep a full list of compatible headsets. If voice input doesn't work with the CHIGEE Display, check the headset's pairing mode and firmware, then test the on-screen voice assistant button. If your headset can't start the assistant by voice while you ride, tap the voice assistant button on the CHIGEE Display instead.
Rider video: Android Auto voice commands
AdvExplorerOz, a YouTube creator, shows an Android Auto voice command setup with a headset on the AIO-5 Play in this video. It's a rider-tested setup, not an official CHIGEE configuration, and results depend on your phone and headset. Follow the steps above first.
