Why CHIGEE TPMS and BMW TPMS readings differ

Understand why CHIGEE tire pressure readings may differ from BMW RDC readings, which compensate pressure to 20 °C (68 °F).

CHIGEE TPMS readings may differ from the BMW factory TPMS (RDC) display. BMW's RDC shows tire pressure temperature-compensated to 68 °F (20 °C), while CHIGEE sensors show the currently measured pressure.

System Comparison

BMW Factory TPMS: Temperature-Compensated Reading

BMW's factory TPMS uses an internal sensor system that:

  1. Is mounted inside the tire

  2. Uses processed data that filters out pressure changes from temperature fluctuations

  3. Shows relatively stable readings across different riding conditions

CHIGEE TPMS: Dynamic Measurement

CHIGEE's TPMS provides real-time, dynamic measurements using a sensor system that:

  1. Is mounted outside the tire (external sensors) or inside the tire (internal sensors)

  2. Shows natural pressure fluctuations as temperatures change during riding

  3. During rides, as tires warm up, pressure increases

  4. When stopped and cooling, pressure decreases

Why Readings Differ

Measurement Philosophy

  1. CHIGEE: Displays real-time, unfiltered data, capturing natural pressure changes as the tires heat up during riding.

  2. BMW: Displays processed, stabilized readings that filter out temperature-related variations.
