CHIGEE Display starts only on the second BMW engine start

Check startup timing, battery condition and cradle fit when the first engine start leaves the display off.

A CHIGEE Display in a BMW Nav Prep cradle may fail to start during engine cranking, then start on the next power cycle. A brief voltage drop or cradle power timing can interrupt startup; the symptom alone does not identify a hardware fault.

Try these fixes first

While parked, try this startup sequence with your CHIGEE Display:

  1. Turn on the motorcycle ignition.

  2. Wait 5–10 seconds before starting the engine.

  3. Start the engine and check whether the CHIGEE Display completes startup.

As an alternative, start the engine before inserting the CHIGEE Display, while remaining parked. If either sequence helps, record which one worked.

If the problem continues

Startup timing results can help check the CHIGEE Display’s power path, but do not establish the cause by themselves.

Check the battery and charging system

A weak BMW battery can make cranking voltage drops worse. Note whether the issue is more common in cold weather or whether other electronics restart. Ask a qualified service provider to check the battery or charging system.

Check the cradle fit

With the motorcycle off, check that the CHIGEE Display seats securely in the cradle. Visually inspect accessible contacts for debris or corrosion.

Important: Do not clean, sand or scrape the contacts yourself. Follow official BMW service documentation or consult an authorized BMW service center.

Check firmware

Check whether an officially released firmware update is available for your exact CHIGEE Display. An update may include power-management changes, but is not a guaranteed fix for this symptom.

Contact us

If the CHIGEE Display still fails on the first start, contact us with the BMW model and year, cradle type, display model and firmware. Include whether waiting 5–10 seconds changed the result.

If safe while parked, send a short video showing the inserted display, ignition-on, engine start and display response.
