Install and use the BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle

Install the cradle on a supported BMW, check the lock indicator, remove the display and use the emergency release when power is unavailable.

The BMW Electromagnetic Quick-Release Cradle lets you mount a compatible CHIGEE Display on a supported BMW motorcycle and remove it without a mechanical key. The cradle stays locked when the motorcycle is off; when the motorcycle is powered on, hold the unlock button for 2 seconds and remove the display within 10 seconds.

Before you start

Check that your display and motorcycle match the supported setup before installing the cradle.

  • Compatible CHIGEE displays: AIO-5 Play for BMW, or AIO-6 Max / AIO-6 LTE with the BMW Quick-Release Module installed.

  • Power interface: A compatible BMW OEM LIN power connector is required.

  • Electrical system: The cradle operates at DC 12 V. Do not connect it to a 24 V system.

The cradle can replace a compatible mechanical BMW navigation cradle, or it can be installed on a suitable Ø12–16 mm cockpit crossbar if your motorcycle has the required BMW OEM LIN power connector and mounting space.

Install the cradle

  1. Choose a suitable mounting position near the motorcycle cockpit. Confirm that the display, handlebars and cables have enough clearance throughout steering movement.

  2. Use the supplied clamp on a Ø12–16 mm crossbar. Remove the four clamp screws, position the clamp around the crossbar, then reinstall and tighten the screws securely.

  3. Connect the cradle to the compatible BMW OEM LIN power connector.

  4. If your supported BMW setup uses the 18-pin communication connector for vehicle data and Wonder Wheel control, connect it to the compatible BMW OEM infotainment interface as specified for your motorcycle.

  5. Fit the compatible CHIGEE Display into the cradle and check that it is fully seated.

The product page specifies a 70 cm cable and a 3 A fuse. Confirm the routing and connection points against the product manual for your motorcycle before powering on.

Lock and remove the display

Lock the display before riding

  1. Insert the display into the cradle until it is fully seated.

  2. Check the latch-status window. Green means the display is fully locked.

  3. Gently pull the display to confirm that it is secured.

Important: Do not ride if the status window is red or half red and half green. Red means the display is released or unlocked. Half red and half green means the display is not fully seated. Remove and reinstall the display until the window is fully green.

Remove the display when the motorcycle is powered on

  1. Turn on the motorcycle.

  2. Press and hold the cradle unlock button for 2 seconds.

  3. Release the button, then press the release lever and remove the display within 10 seconds.

If you do not remove the display within 10 seconds, the cradle locks again. Turning on the motorcycle enables unlocking; it does not release the display automatically.

When the motorcycle is off or has no power

The cradle remains locked when it is unpowered, and the normal unlock button cannot release the display. Use the manual emergency-release mechanism only when electrical unlocking is unavailable.

Use the emergency release

If the motorcycle battery is dead or the cradle cannot be electrically unlocked, the cradle includes a manual emergency-release mechanism.

  1. Use the supplied T6 Torx tool to open the emergency-release cover.

  2. Move and hold the internal override pin in the unlock position.

  3. While holding the pin, press the release lever and remove the display.

Use the emergency release only when normal electrical unlocking is unavailable. Refit the cover and check the cradle before using the motorcycle again.

Understand BMW data and Wonder Wheel control

The cradle passes through the BMW vehicle data and Wonder Wheel signals supported by the motorcycle and display. It does not generate missing vehicle data or add BMW factory options that the motorcycle does not have.

Wonder Wheel control requires the BMW Preparation for Navigation System option (SA 272) on supported motorcycles. If you are unsure whether your motorcycle has SA 272, check the original build sheet or ask a BMW dealer to look it up by VIN.

Available vehicle data varies by BMW model, model year, sensors and factory configuration. A compatible cradle cannot provide information that the motorcycle does not transmit.

FAQs

Do I need BMW Nav Prep to install the cradle?

Not necessarily. You can replace a compatible mechanical BMW navigation cradle or use the included clamp on a suitable Ø12–16 mm crossbar. Your motorcycle still needs a compatible BMW OEM LIN power connector and a suitable mounting position.

Does the display unlock automatically when I turn on the motorcycle?

No. Turn on the motorcycle, hold the unlock button for 2 seconds, then press the release lever and remove the display within 10 seconds.

Can I use a different mounting bracket?

No. The product page states that the cradle must be used with the included Ø12–16 mm crossbar clamp and is not compatible with other mounting systems.

Will the cradle show all BMW vehicle data?

No. The cradle only passes data supplied by the motorcycle. Available readings depend on the BMW model, model year, sensors and factory configuration.

Can I use the BMW Wonder Wheel with this cradle?

Wonder Wheel control requires SA 272 Preparation for Navigation System on supported BMW motorcycles. Check your motorcycle’s build sheet or ask a BMW dealer to confirm the option.
