Dashcam Loop Recording: Always On by Design (File Safety Explained)
Your CHIGEE dashcam is designed to record continuously without interruption. To achieve this, it uses loop recording, which ensures you always capture the latest footage without worrying about storage running out.
What Is Loop Recording?
Loop recording saves video in short segments—usually 1, 2, or 3 minutes long. When the memory card becomes nearly full, the dashcam will automatically start overwriting the oldest unlocked files with new recordings.
This means recording never stops, even on long rides. If your memory card is larger, more video clips will be stored before the loop recording process begins. In other words:
Why Loop Recording Is Essential
Loop recording is fundamental because it ensures your dashcam never runs out of storage. Even during long drives, it keeps recording seamlessly by recycling old footage.
Storing footage in short clips also makes it easier to review and retrieve specific events compared to searching through one long video.
Choosing Video Segment Length
Most dashcams, including CHIGEE, allow you to set segment length:
- 1 minute → easier to locate specific events.
- 2 minutes → a balanced option.
- 3 minutes → fewer files to manage, good for longer scenes.
Collision Lock and Manual Lock
Your CHIGEE dashcam includes a G-sensor collision detection system. When enabled, the dashcam automatically locks and protects footage if it detects a sudden impact or collision.
You can set the sensitivity level to Off, High, Medium, or Low, depending on your riding conditions.
-
Locked files are protected and cannot be overwritten by loop recording.
-
In addition, you can manually lock a video using the dashcam controls or the CHIGEE Go app to keep it safe.
This gives you full control over which recordings are preserved.
If You Can’t Lock in Time
If you’re unable to press the lock button immediately during an event, you can quickly take a screenshot on your phone while the footage is playing.
This screenshot will include a timestamp, making it much easier to locate the exact video segment later within the dashcam recordings.
