Fix: SD Card “Needs to Be Formatted” / “Format Failed” on CHIGEE Display

Fix: SD Card “Needs to Be Formatted” / “Format Failed” on CHIGEE Display

Applies to: CHIGEE Display models with dashcam/storage (e.g., AIO-6, AIO-5 Lite)
Card type: microSD/TF

1) Check SD Card Specifications (Most Common Cause)

2) Verify SD Card Installation

Improper seating often triggers format errors.
  • Power off the display.
  • Remove the card, then reinsert firmly until it clicks.
  • Power on and check if the message clears.

On the CHIGEE Display (preferred):
Settings → Storage/SD Card → Format.

If device format fails, use a computer:
  • Use the SD Association Memory Card Formatter (Quick Format; if needed, Overwrite Format).
  • Reinsert into the CHIGEE Display and format again on the device.
If the card reports odd capacity or can’t complete an overwrite format, it’s likely defective/counterfeit—replace it.

4) Try a Factory Reset (if errors persist)

Chigee Display Settings → Reset → confirm.
Then repeat the format steps above with a known-good ≤256 GB U3/A2/V30 card.

Extra Checks

  • Adapter lock: If using a microSD→SD adapter on PC, ensure the lock switch isn’t set.
  • File I/O test: Copy a 2–4 GB video to the card on a PC and play it back; corruption = bad card.
  • Slot/contacts: Inspect for debris or bent pins (no metal tools).
  • Avoid exotic setups: Single partition, standard filesystem only; let the device do the final format.

  • 512 GB+ cards
  • Low-speed cards (Class 10/U1 or unmarked)
  • Counterfeit/remarked media
