Wireless CarPlay on the CHIGEE Display uses Bluetooth and Wi-Fi together, so keep both turned on on your iPhone. You don't need to join a Wi-Fi network manually: your iPhone joins the CHIGEE Display's Wi-Fi network, CHIGEE-XXXX, automatically when CarPlay connects.
If Wi-Fi is off when CarPlay starts, your iPhone asks you to turn on Wi-Fi to use wireless CarPlay. Tap Turn On. For Apple's own instructions, see Connect to CarPlay on iPhone.
How the connection works
When you connect wireless CarPlay to the CHIGEE Display, the connection starts in these steps:
Your iPhone and the CHIGEE Display exchange connection data over Bluetooth.
Your iPhone joins the CHIGEE-XXXX Wi-Fi network automatically, even if you never selected it in Wi-Fi settings.
The CarPlay screen and touch controls run over Wi-Fi, because Bluetooth can't carry the CarPlay screen.
While CarPlay is running, CHIGEE-XXXX shows as connected in Settings > Wi-Fi on your iPhone, and the CarPlay Home screen appears on the CHIGEE Display. The CHIGEE-XXXX network doesn't provide internet, so your iPhone keeps using cellular data for maps and music. If CarPlay has no internet, see CarPlay has no internet or maps are frozen.
Bluetooth shows not connected while CarPlay is running
After wireless CarPlay starts, your iPhone may show the CHIGEE Display as not connected in Settings > Bluetooth. This is normal, because CarPlay keeps running over the CHIGEE-XXXX Wi-Fi network. Keep Bluetooth turned on anyway: your iPhone needs Bluetooth to start CarPlay with the CHIGEE Display each time.
Two Bluetooth names: CHIGEE-XXXX and CHIGEE-XXXX LE
Your phone can show two Bluetooth names for the CHIGEE Display. Seeing both is normal, and each one has its own job:
CHIGEE-XXXX: the connection for CarPlay and Android Auto. Choose this name when you connect CarPlay or Android Auto.
CHIGEE-XXXX LE: the channel your iPhone uses to send notifications, such as messages and app alerts, to the CHIGEE Display. It uses Apple Notification Center Service (ANCS).
Keep wireless CarPlay connected
Other Wi-Fi networks and VPNs can interrupt wireless CarPlay between your iPhone and the CHIGEE Display. To keep CarPlay connected, check the following on your iPhone:
Known Wi-Fi networks: if your iPhone is in range of Wi-Fi networks it has joined before, such as home or work Wi-Fi, turn off Auto-Join for those networks.
VPN: turn off VPN on your iPhone, because a VPN can block the connection to the CHIGEE Display.
If wireless CarPlay won't connect or keeps dropping, see iPhone won't connect to CarPlay on the CHIGEE Display and CarPlay keeps disconnecting from the CHIGEE Display.
