Wireless Android Auto usually drops when your phone ends its Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connection to the CHIGEE Display. Many Android phones notice that the CHIGEE Wi-Fi link has no internet and switch to mobile data or another known Wi-Fi network, which breaks Android Auto. Other common causes are other Bluetooth devices, aggressive battery saving and radio interference where you ride.
If Android Auto never connects at all, see Android phone won't connect to Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display.
Try these fixes first
Try these fixes in order, and test Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display after each one. Setting names and locations vary by phone brand and Android version.
Restart your phone and the CHIGEE Display, then connect Android Auto again.
Stop your phone from leaving the CHIGEE Wi-Fi link. In Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced, turn off Switch to mobile data and options such as Switch to better network or Auto-connect to public networks. Don't connect your phone to your own Wi-Fi network while you use Android Auto.
Turn off battery limits for Android Auto: go to Settings > Apps > Android Auto > Battery and choose Unrestricted.
Switch the 5 GHz Wi-Fi channel on the CHIGEE Display. Interference and channel rules vary by country, phone and location, so try the channels one by one and keep the most stable one. See Manual Wi-Fi channel switching for more stable phone mirroring. Channel switching needs AIO-6 LTE or AIO-6 Max firmware v1.8.8, AIO-5 Play firmware v1.7.7, or AIO-5 Lite or AIO-5 EVO firmware v3.5.7 or later, and isn't available on Japan models.
If the problem continues
If wireless Android Auto still drops on the CHIGEE Display, find the situation below that matches what you see.
Android Auto started dropping after an update
If Android Auto worked on the CHIGEE Display before and started dropping after an update, a new app or a settings change, that change on your phone is the most likely cause. Use the stable version of Android Auto, not Android Auto Beta, and make sure you aren't enrolled in the Android Auto beta program. Update Android, the Android Auto app and Google Play services. To see whether other riders have the same problem, search online for your phone model and "wireless Android Auto disconnect".
Your phone is connected to other Bluetooth devices
Smartwatches, a BMW TFT, smart home systems and other Bluetooth devices connected to your phone can compete with the CHIGEE Display for your phone's Bluetooth. To find out whether one of them is the cause, disconnect them for a test ride with only the CHIGEE Display connected, then connect them again after the test.
If you ride a BMW with a TFT, see Use CarPlay with a BMW TFT and ConnectedRide.
Apps and phone features interrupt Android Auto
Some apps and phone features can break wireless Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display. On your phone, check the following:
Smart home apps: turn off or uninstall SmartThings or similar smart home apps.
Hotspot: turn off your phone's hotspot, because it disrupts the direct Wi-Fi link.
VPN: turn off VPN, because it can block local traffic that Android Auto needs.
Locked screen: in the Android Auto settings, turn on Allow apps while screen is locked.
Background apps: close streaming or syncing apps that run in the background.
Android Auto cache: go to Settings > Apps > Android Auto > Storage and tap Clear cache.
Advanced Wi-Fi features break the connection
Some built-in Wi-Fi features can make Android Auto disconnect from the CHIGEE Display. If your phone has them, turn off the following:
Hotspot 2.0: in Settings > Wi-Fi > Advanced.
STA/STA concurrency and co-channel avoidance: in Developer options or the advanced Wi-Fi settings on newer Android versions.
Note: Some Samsung Galaxy S22, S23, S24 and S25 users reported that Android Auto works more reliably after they changed these Wi-Fi settings: turn off Wi-Fi Calling, Auto on/off for Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi power saving mode and Wi-Fi Safe Mode; turn on Real-time data prioritization, Suspicious network detection, Wi-Fi scanning and Wi-Fi scan throttling.
Audio drops or the connection is unstable on newer phones
Some Bluetooth settings can cause audio dropouts or an unstable Android Auto connection on the CHIGEE Display, especially on newer phones with Bluetooth 5.4, such as the Galaxy S24 and S25. To change them, turn on Developer options on your phone, then:
Go to Settings > System > Developer options and turn off Bluetooth A2DP hardware offload.
In the Networking section of Developer options, tap Bluetooth LE Audio Mode and choose Disable.
Restart your phone.
On many phones, turning off Developer options resets these settings to their defaults. If you turn Developer options off later, check that both settings are still off.
Old network and pairing records cause conflicts
Old Wi-Fi and Bluetooth records on your phone or the CHIGEE Display can make Android Auto drop. Clear them in this order, and test Android Auto after each step:
Reset your phone's network settings, for example in Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth. This removes all paired Bluetooth devices and saved Wi-Fi networks, so you'll need to pair and join them again.
On the CHIGEE Display, go to Settings > Reset and confirm. This restores factory settings and clears stored pairings.
On your phone, open the Bluetooth settings, forget every CHIGEE entry, such as CHIGEE-XXXX and CHIGEE-XXXX LE, and restart your phone.
On the CHIGEE Display, open Car Link (on the AIO-6, Phone Mirror) and select Android Auto. On your phone, turn on Bluetooth, pair with the CHIGEE-XXXX name shown on the CHIGEE Display, and accept the pairing requests on both.
If Android Auto still drops often, reinstall Android Auto and Google Maps.
Android Auto drops in the same place every time
If Android Auto always drops at the same spot and drops often there, a strong source of outside interference in that area is the likely cause, for example heavy traffic areas, events or crowded wireless networks. Phone and CHIGEE Display settings can't remove interference like this.
Find out whether the problem is your phone
Test Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display with a phone of a different brand or model. If the other phone stays connected, the cause is most likely your phone's settings or Android version. In most cases, a phone that keeps dropping wireless Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display also drops it with other wireless Android Auto devices.
