Android phone won't connect to Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display

Check phone compatibility, Android Auto settings and old pairing records when wireless Android Auto won't start.

If your Android phone won't connect to the CHIGEE Display over wireless Android Auto, the usual cause is a phone setting, an app conflict or an old pairing record. Start by checking that Android Auto is selected in Car Link (on the AIO-6, Phone Mirror), because an Android phone won't connect while CarPlay is selected.

Try these fixes first

Check these in order, and try connecting Android Auto to the CHIGEE Display after each one. Setting names and locations vary by phone brand and Android version.

  1. Phone compatibility: wireless Android Auto needs Android 11 or later, 5 GHz Wi-Fi and Google Play services. Phones without Google Play services, such as Huawei phones released outside mainland China since 2019, don't support Android Auto. See Which phones work with the CHIGEE Display?

  2. Updates: update Android, the Android Auto app and Google Play services. If Android Auto still won't start, reinstall the Android Auto app if your phone allows it, to clear corrupted app data.

  3. Permissions: go to Settings > Apps > Android Auto and make sure all permissions are allowed. In the Android Auto settings, make sure your phone is allowed to connect to new cars.

  4. Restart your phone and the CHIGEE Display, then connect again.

If the problem continues

If Android Auto still won't connect to the CHIGEE Display, work through these checks.

Phone settings block the connection

Some phone features and apps can stop wireless Android Auto from connecting to the CHIGEE Display. On your phone, check the following:

  • Smart home apps: turn off or uninstall SmartThings or other smart home controller apps, or remove them from Android Auto.

  • Hotspot: turn off your phone's hotspot, because it can block the wireless Android Auto connection.

  • Battery optimization: go to Settings > Apps > Android Auto > Battery and choose Unrestricted.

  • VPN: turn off VPN, because it can block communication between your phone and the CHIGEE Display.

  • Wi-Fi acceleration: turn off network acceleration, often in Settings > Wi-Fi > Network Acceleration, because it can switch your phone between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi.

  • Home Wi-Fi: make sure your phone isn't connected to your own Wi-Fi network, because Android Auto needs a direct Wi-Fi link to the CHIGEE Display.

Reset the pairing

An old pairing record on your phone or the CHIGEE Display can stop Android Auto from connecting. To reset the pairing on both:

  1. On the CHIGEE Display, go to Settings > Reset and confirm. This clears old pairing data and restores the CHIGEE Display's factory settings.

  2. On your phone, open the Bluetooth settings and forget every CHIGEE entry, such as CHIGEE-XXXX and CHIGEE-XXXX LE. Restarting your phone afterward is recommended.

  3. On the CHIGEE Display, open Car Link (on the AIO-6, Phone Mirror) and select Android Auto.

  4. On your phone, turn on Bluetooth and select the CHIGEE-XXXX name shown on the CHIGEE Display.

  5. Confirm the pairing prompts on your phone and the CHIGEE Display. The Android Auto screen appears on the CHIGEE Display when the connection works.

You can also delete an old record without resetting the CHIGEE Display: open Car Link, tap the Settings icon and delete the record under Pairing Records, then connect again.

Test with another phone

Try Android Auto on the CHIGEE Display with a phone of a different brand or model. If the other phone connects, the problem is specific to your phone or its settings.
