If your CHIGEE Display says the SD card needs formatting or formatting fails, check the card's specifications and installation first. Formatting erases recordings stored on the selected card, so back up important footage before you continue.
1. Check card compatibility
Capacity: Use a card up to 256 GB. Cards of 512 GB or larger are not supported.
Speed: Use a U3 / V30 card; high-endurance cards designed for video recording are preferred.
Use a genuine card from a reputable brand. Avoid cards advertised at unusually low prices for their capacity.
For more detail, see How to choose the right memory card for your motorcycle dashcam.
2. Reseat the card
Turn off the CHIGEE Display.
Remove the microSD card and reinsert it firmly until it is seated correctly.
Turn on the display and check whether the error has cleared.
3. Format the card
When the card is recognized, format it from the CHIGEE Display's Settings > Storage / SD Card > Format menu. Menu names may vary by model or firmware.
If formatting on the display fails, use the SD Association Memory Card Formatter on a computer, then reinsert the card and format it again in the CHIGEE Display.
If the card reports an incorrect capacity, cannot complete formatting or fails file-copy tests, replace it with a known-good compatible card.
4. If formatting still fails
Try a factory reset only after checking the card and saving any important footage. A factory reset restores device settings; it is separate from formatting the card. See What does a factory reset do on a CHIGEE Display?.
Also check that any full-size SD adapter's lock switch is not engaged. Inspect the card and slot for debris, but do not use metal tools inside the slot.
Contact support
If the problem continues, contact CHIGEE support with your display model and firmware version, card brand and model, card capacity, a photo of the error and the steps you have already tried.
