You can update your CHIGEE Display to the latest official firmware over Wi-Fi, also called an over-the-air (OTA) update. You can also try beta firmware to get new features before the official release. To install a firmware file from a computer instead, see Update or downgrade CHIGEE Display firmware with a microSD card.
Important: CHIGEE Displays sold in mainland China, for example on Taobao, are China-version units made for use in mainland China only. After a firmware update, a China-version unit used outside mainland China can show "Unsupported region — this feature is not supported", and CarPlay can stop working. We can't remove this restriction or roll back the firmware. Contact the seller you bought the unit from to return it. See China-version CHIGEE products don't work outside mainland China.
Before you start
Before you update the firmware on your CHIGEE Display, check the following:
A microSD card: Insert a microSD card. The CHIGEE Display downloads the update to the card, because its built-in memory (eMMC) can't be used for updates. We recommend a 32 GB U3 card from a known brand. The AIO-5 Play and AIO-5 Play for BMW can also use an 8 GB card, but choose a U3 card, because low-quality 8 GB cards can make the update fail. See SD card requirements and usage.
Stable power: Power the CHIGEE Display from a stable power source, such as the motorcycle power cable or a quick-release module, and keep it powered until the update finishes. Don't turn off the motorcycle or unplug the display during the update.
Wi-Fi: Use your phone's hotspot or a home Wi-Fi network. The AIO-6 LTE also updates over Wi-Fi only. Its built-in SIM card isn't used, so the update uses no SIM data.
Important: USB power from a computer or USB charger can be unstable during a firmware update and make the update fail. A failed update can leave the CHIGEE Display unable to start until you recover it. On the AIO-6 LTE, the 4G module update also needs more power than USB provides. Update over USB only if you accept this risk.
Update to the latest official firmware
To update your CHIGEE Display to the latest official firmware over Wi-Fi:
On the CHIGEE Display, tap Settings > System Update.
Tap Check for Updates.
Tap Select Wi-Fi, choose your phone's hotspot or home Wi-Fi network, enter the password and connect.
If a new version is found, tap Download & Install.
Wait for the update to finish. The CHIGEE Display restarts automatically. To check the new version, tap Settings > About.
If no new version is found, your CHIGEE Display already has the latest official firmware.
Note: The CHIGEE Display can't show some special characters in Wi-Fi passwords. If it can't connect, change the router password to use only common letters and numbers, or connect to a different Wi-Fi network.
Try beta firmware
Beta firmware gives your CHIGEE Display new features before the official release, but it can have bugs that weren't found in testing. To install beta firmware:
On the CHIGEE Display, tap Settings > System Update.
Turn on Check for beta firmware.
Tap Check for Updates, then tap Download & Install.
Wait for the CHIGEE Display to restart. To check the new version, tap Settings > About.
Go back to official firmware
To go back from beta firmware to official firmware on your CHIGEE Display, choose one of these options:
Wait for a newer official version: When an official version newer than your beta firmware is released, update over Wi-Fi as described in Update to the latest official firmware above.
Go back to an earlier official version now: Install the earlier official version from a microSD card. See Update or downgrade CHIGEE Display firmware with a microSD card.
If the update doesn't work
If a firmware update on your CHIGEE Display is slow, fails or causes a problem, find the symptom below.
The download is slow or stuck
A slow or stuck firmware download on the CHIGEE Display usually means a weak Wi-Fi signal. Move closer to the router, or connect to your phone's hotspot instead.
The installation fails
If the firmware installation fails on your CHIGEE Display, try these steps in order:
If the CHIGEE Display is powered over USB, connect it to a stable power source, such as the motorcycle power cable or a quick-release module.
Restart the CHIGEE Display and try again.
Connect to a more stable network, such as your phone's hotspot, and try again.
Insert a different microSD card, format it on the CHIGEE Display (Settings > Storage > Format SD card), and try again. A 32 GB U3 card from a known brand works best. Some 128 GB and 256 GB cards can make the update fail.
You can't update over Wi-Fi
If you can't update the CHIGEE Display over Wi-Fi, install the firmware from a microSD card on a computer instead. See Update or downgrade CHIGEE Display firmware with a microSD card.
The screen stays black after an update
If the screen of your CHIGEE Display lights up but the display doesn't start after an update, follow the recovery steps for your model:
"Unsupported region" appears after an update
If your CHIGEE Display shows "Unsupported region — this feature is not supported" after a firmware update, it's a China-version unit made for use in mainland China. We can't remove the region restriction or roll back the firmware, so contact the seller you bought the unit from to return it. See China-version CHIGEE products don't work outside mainland China.
The AIO-6 LTE shows "4G Module upgrading" at every start
If the AIO-6 LTE shows "4G Module upgrading" or "4G module upgrade failed" after a firmware update, see AIO-6 LTE 4G module update failed.

FAQs
Can I remove the microSD card after the update?
If you don't use dashcam cameras, you can remove the microSD card from the CHIGEE Display after a firmware update. Insert the card again before the next update, because the CHIGEE Display needs a microSD card to download updates. After you remove the card, close the card slot cover fully so that water can't get in.
How do I know when new firmware is available?
To check for new firmware, tap Settings > System Update > Check for Updates on your CHIGEE Display. To see what changed in each version, see the release notes for your model: AIO-6 LTE and AIO-6 Max, AIO-5 Play, AIO-5 Lite and AIO-5 EVO, or XR-2.
Can I go back to an earlier firmware version?
You can go back to an earlier firmware version, including from beta firmware to an earlier official version, by installing it on your CHIGEE Display from a microSD card. See Update or downgrade CHIGEE Display firmware with a microSD card.
