Use this microSD recovery procedure if your AIO-5 Lite or AIO-5 EVO has a backlit black screen and cannot finish starting, especially after a failed firmware update.
Before you start
Supported models: AIO-5 Lite and AIO-5 EVO use the same recovery files and procedure.
Back up your SD card: formatting erases its files.
Keep power connected: the screen may remain black for 2–3 minutes or longer during recovery. Wait for the display to restart automatically.
If there is no backlight, start with CHIGEE Display power troubleshooting.
For AIO-5 Play, AIO-5 Play for BMW, AIO-6 Max, AIO-6 LTE or XR-2, use the USB recovery instructions for your model instead.
1. Format the SD card as FAT32
Back up any files you want to keep, then format the SD card. Use a full format rather than a quick format.
On Windows
Use a formatting tool such as Rufus and select FAT32. Refer to the settings below.
On Mac
Open Disk Utility, select the SD card, then choose Erase > Format > MS-DOS (FAT) > Erase.
2. Download the recovery files
Download the AIO-5 Lite and AIO-5 EVO recovery files.
Note for AIO-5 EVO: EVO uses the same recovery files. No separate EVO recovery files are needed.
3. Copy the files to the SD card
Copy all recovery files shown below directly to the root directory (the top level) of the SD card. Do not put them in a folder or change their names. Files in a subfolder will not be detected.
4. Insert the SD card and recover the display
With the power off, insert the SD card into the display.
Turn the engine on.
Keep power connected and wait for the display to restart automatically. The screen may remain black for 2–3 minutes or longer during recovery.
5. Remove the recovery files and update the firmware
After recovery, back up any files you need, then format the microSD card on the display to remove the recovery files. Leaving them on the card causes recovery to run again at startup.
Update the display to the latest firmware over Wi-Fi. Follow the Wi-Fi firmware update instructions.
