Use USB recovery if your CHIGEE Display has a backlit black screen and cannot finish starting, especially after a failed firmware update. Choose the package for your exact model below.
Important: USB recovery requires a Windows PC. It cannot be performed on a Mac.
Applies to: AIO-6 Max, AIO-6 LTE, AIO-5 Play, AIO-5 Play for BMW and XR-2.
Recover your CHIGEE Display
1. Download and open the recovery tool
Download the correct recovery package for your model.
AIO-6 Max and AIO-6 LTE:Download the AIO-6 recovery package
AIO-5 Play and AIO-5 Play for BMW:Download the AIO-5 Play recovery package
AIO-5 Play and AIO-5 Play for BMW use the same recovery package. Extract the ZIP file for your model and open USBDownloadTool-nopad.exe.
2. Enter USB download mode
Prepare a USB Type-C cable and connect it to your Windows PC.
On the CHIGEE Display unit, press and hold the lock button (located on the right side of the screen).
While holding the button, plug the Type-C cable into the CHIGEE Display. Keep holding the button. The device will enter USB download mode once detected by your PC.
3. Confirm Windows recognizes the display
On your Windows PC, open Device Manager: – Press Windows + X and select Device Manager, or – Search for “Device Manager” in the Start menu.
In Device Manager, expand Disk Drives.
Once you see GCREADER USB Device appear under Disk Drives, release the lock button.
The device is now ready for firmware flashing.
4. Install the recovery firmware
In the USBDownloadTool window, click Upgrade Firmware.
Wait for the progress bar to complete — this usually takes around 4 minutes.
When you see Reset displayed, the flashing process is complete.
5. Restart the display
Unplug the Type-C cable from the CHIGEE Display.
Wait for about 10 seconds.
Reconnect the cable and power on the device.
Check that the CHIGEE Display starts normally. If it does not, follow the checks below.
The recovery installs a base firmware version, not the latest version. After the CHIGEE Display starts, update it to the latest firmware over Wi-Fi. See Update CHIGEE Display firmware over Wi-Fi.
If the recovery tool keeps disconnecting
Symptom: During restore, the device repeatedly disconnects/reconnects and the tool cannot finish.
Likely cause: The PC's USB port may not provide stable power during recovery, particularly through a hub or some front-panel ports. An unstable USB supply can interrupt recovery. Check the power supply and USB data connection.
Use motorcycle power with the USB data connection
Use the bike’s battery (via the OEM cradle or power harness) to provide stable power and connect a USB-C cable to your computer for the restore.
You’ll need
Your motorcycle with ignition ON
A known-good USB-C data cable (avoid hubs/adapters)
Your Windows laptop with the restore tool ready
Steps
Power from the bike: Dock the device on the BMW Nav Prep cradle or the battery power harness, then turn ignition ON so the mount outputs power.
Add the data link: Follow steps 2 and 3 above to connect the USB-C data cable, enter USB download mode and confirm Windows recognizes the display.
Run the tool again: Run the USB recovery tool and complete the restore.
Finish: When done, disconnect USB-C, power-cycle the device, and verify normal boot.
Why it works: The computer USB connection can supply power, but an insufficient or unstable supply can interrupt recovery. Using the motorcycle power connection as well helps maintain stable power while the computer transfers the firmware.
If recovery does not work
This recovery is Windows-only; follow steps carefully.
If backlight never turns on with any power method, troubleshoot power first (direct battery test, alternate cables/modules). CHIGEE Display Does Not Power On
If recovery still fails, contact us with your CHIGEE Display model, serial number, recovery package used and a screenshot of the tool's result.
