CGRC CAN lets you control a compatible CHIGEE Display with your BMW Wonder Wheel. Choose the connector that matches the RDC or DWA connection actually fitted to your motorcycle.
Note: The AIO-5 EVO, XR-2 and AIO-6 EVO do not support CGRC CAN.
Before you start
For CGRC CAN installation, you need the matching module and access to your motorcycle’s RDC or DWA connector. Use your BMW manual for the tools and trim-removal procedure required on your model.
RDC is the tire pressure monitoring module; DWA is the anti-theft alarm module. Some motorcycles were ordered without one of these modules, so inspect your bike before purchasing.
If you have a K1600 or RT, check Wonder Wheel compatibility and simultaneous control before choosing CGRC CAN. CGRC Pro is the independent-control alternative for the affected configurations.
Important: Power off the motorcycle completely before connecting or disconnecting CGRC CAN. Hot-swapping can generate error codes and may cause the motorcycle to malfunction.
Choose the connector
CGRC CAN has three connector options. Match the pin count and module on your own BMW to the official CGRC CAN product options.
CGRC CAN version | Connection | Selection guidance |
4-pin | RDC tire pressure monitoring module | Use a matching, accessible RDC connector |
8-pin | DWA anti-theft alarm module | Use a matching, accessible 8-pin DWA connector |
6-pin | DWA anti-theft alarm module | R1300 GS and R1300 GS Adventure use the 6-pin DWA option, A263*1B |
Model recommendations are a starting point. For example, R1200 RT guidance may recommend the 8-pin DWA version. If your motorcycle has a compatible 4-pin RDC connection that is easier to reach, you can choose the 4-pin version.
For R1300 GS and R1300 GS Adventure, the 6-pin option lets you retain the BMW Navigator connection. CGRC LIN uses the separate 3-pin navigation interface and requires disconnecting the BMW navigation system.
Find the DWA or RDC connector
Use the BMW connector codes below in ISTA, BMW’s diagnostic program, or ask an official BMW dealer to identify the exact location. Connector positions and installed equipment vary by motorcycle.
Find the 8-pin DWA connector
The 8-pin DWA connector is identified as A63*1B. These are the documented location examples:
R1200 R, R1200 S, R1200 ST and R1200 RT: in a small compartment beneath the rear half of the seat, in front of the tail light. Identify the wiring harness plug connected to the DWA module.
R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure: remove the plastic luggage rack under the rear seat to access the DWA connections.
S1000 RR: on the crossbeam where the front and rear seats meet.
Find the 4-pin RDC connector
The 4-pin RDC connector is identified as A66*1B. These are the documented location examples:
R1200 GS, R1200 GS Adventure, R1250 GS and R1250 GS Adventure: beneath the rear seat.
R1200 RT: beneath the rear cowl; remove the seat to access the connection.
R1200 RS: beneath the pillion seat.
Important: On R1200 GS, R1200 GS Adventure, R1250 GS and R1250 GS Adventure, do not mistake the ABS tilt angle sensor for the RDC connection.
Find the 6-pin DWA connector
For R1300 GS and R1300 GS Adventure, identify the 6-pin DWA connector A263*1B. Ask your BMW dealer to confirm its position if needed.
Install and pair CGRC CAN
Install CGRC CAN inline with the matching RDC or DWA connection, using both ends of the adapter harness.
Power off the motorcycle completely.
Locate the matching RDC or DWA module and unplug its original connector.
Insert the matching CGRC CAN adapter between the motorcycle connector and the module.
Reconnect the other end of the CGRC CAN harness. Check that both connections are fully seated before restoring power.
The installation video shows how CGRC CAN connects to the motorcycle. Follow the power-off and reconnection steps above for your matching connector.
Pair with your CHIGEE Display
Pair CGRC CAN with your CHIGEE Display over Bluetooth after the wiring is complete. The video uses AIO-5 Lite as the example.
Power on the motorcycle and CHIGEE Display.
Open the remote-controller settings and select CGRC CAN to complete pairing.
Confirm the module is paired, then use the Wonder Wheel to check CHIGEE Display control. If it does not respond, follow the CGRC CAN troubleshooting steps.
Video timing: 0:00–0:25 shows pairing on AIO-5 Lite; 0:26–1:23 shows control.
For control settings and both Wonder Wheel demonstration videos, see Set up Wonder Wheel control with CGRC CAN or CGRC LIN. For an existing HEX ezCAN or Denali CANsmart, use the accessory connection guide.
FAQs
Does CGRC CAN read native BMW data?
CGRC CAN provides Wonder Wheel control. For native BMW data, check CGRC LIN compatibility and the available navigation connection.
Can I choose a connector from my motorcycle’s model name alone?
Inspect the installed RDC or DWA module and its connector before ordering. Equipment and accessible connections can differ between motorcycles of the same model.
