Choose CGRC CAN or CGRC LIN for your BMW

Compare Wonder Wheel control, BMW data access, connector requirements and supported combinations before choosing a module.

Choose CGRC CAN for Wonder Wheel control through a compatible BMW alarm or tire pressure monitoring connection. Choose CGRC LIN for available BMW data and supported Wonder Wheel control through the 3-pin navigation interface.

Note: The AIO-5 EVO, XR-2 and AIO-6 EVO do not support CGRC CAN.

Choose the functions you need

The table compares CGRC CAN and CGRC LIN on compatible BMW motorcycles and CHIGEE Displays. Check motorcycle data and Wonder Wheel support separately.

Feature

CGRC CAN

CGRC LIN

Wonder Wheel control

Supported on compatible BMW motorcycles

Depends on motorcycle model, year and configuration

Native BMW data

Not provided by CGRC CAN

Reads the data your BMW sends through the navigation interface

Motorcycle connection

4-pin RDC, 6-pin DWA or 8-pin DWA

Dedicated 3-pin navigation interface

Sharing the connection

Supported in the documented HEX ezCAN and Denali CANsmart arrangements

Daisy-chaining is not supported

RDC is the tire pressure monitoring module. DWA is the anti-theft alarm module. Check CGRC CAN connector selection and installation or the CGRC LIN model and year compatibility table before ordering.

Check your display and mounting setup

CGRC LIN works with AIO-5 Play, AIO-5 Lite, AIO-6 LTE and AIO-6 Max in supported standard mounting setups. AIO-5 EVO, XR-2 and AIO-6 EVO do not support CGRC LIN.

CGRC LIN requires disconnecting the BMW Nav Prep cradle. You cannot use CGRC LIN alongside an AIO-5 Play for BMW or an AIO-6 fitted with the BMW Quick-Release Module, because those setups use the same BMW navigation connection.

For K1600 and RT motorcycles, check the model-specific Wonder Wheel limitations. Data support through CGRC LIN does not automatically mean Wonder Wheel control is supported.

Check the available connector

CGRC LIN must connect directly to the BMW 3-pin navigation interface. The motorcycle has one such interface, and CGRC LIN cannot share it with the BMW Nav Prep cradle or another connected accessory.

Inspect the actual wiring. Having a HEX ezCAN installed does not by itself mean the 3-pin navigation interface is occupied; HEX installations can use RDC or DWA connections.

If you need to retain the BMW navigation connection, CGRC CAN can provide Wonder Wheel control through a compatible RDC or DWA connection. It does not replace CGRC LIN for native BMW data.

Use the BMW 3-pin connector location guide to find the navigation interface. For an existing HEX ezCAN or Denali CANsmart installation, follow the documented CGRC CAN connection order.

Use CGRC LIN with another controller

You can use CGRC LIN together with CGRC Pro, or CGRC LIN together with CGRC CAN. Update your CHIGEE Display firmware before using either combination.

The two controllers connect to the CHIGEE Display over Bluetooth. This does not allow two accessories to share CGRC LIN’s 3-pin navigation connection.

FAQs

Can I keep my BMW Navigator and use CGRC LIN?

CGRC LIN requires disconnecting the BMW navigation system from the 3-pin interface. To retain that connection and add Wonder Wheel control, check a compatible CGRC CAN setup.

Does SA 272 affect BMW data reading?

SA 272 relates to native Wonder Wheel control, not BMW data reading. Use the CGRC LIN compatibility table to check each function for your motorcycle.
