Use CGRC CAN with HEX ezCAN or Denali CANsmart

Follow the documented DWA connection for HEX ezCAN or the connection order for Denali CANsmart, with the motorcycle powered off.

You can connect CGRC CAN in series with a HEX ezCAN on the documented DWA setup, or with a Denali CANsmart using the order below. Match the connectors on your motorcycle before starting.

Before you connect

CGRC CAN uses a compatible RDC tire pressure monitoring or DWA anti-theft alarm connection. See CGRC CAN connector selection and installation to check the version and locate the connector.

Important: Power off the motorcycle completely before connecting or disconnecting CGRC CAN or rearranging the accessory wiring. Hot-swapping can generate error codes and may cause the motorcycle to malfunction.

Connect a HEX ezCAN

The documented HEX ezCAN arrangement uses the motorcycle’s DWA connection. Confirm that your HEX ezCAN installation matches this arrangement; do not apply these connector steps to a different RDC or 6-pin setup without checking its instructions.

  1. Locate the DWA connection where HEX ezCAN is connected.

  2. Disconnect the HEX ezCAN connector from the motorcycle’s DWA connection.

  3. Connect the female CHIGEE connector to the motorcycle’s male DWA connector.

  4. Connect the male CHIGEE connector to the female HEX ezCAN connector.

This arrangement lets the DWA connection and both accessories receive the CAN messages they need. Check the connections before restoring power, then confirm Wonder Wheel control and normal accessory operation.

GSD321’s review shows a third-party HEX ezCAN installation example from 17:35 to 18:00. Compare that tested setup with your motorcycle and follow the documented connection steps above.

Connect a Denali CANsmart

For CGRC CAN and Denali CANsmart, connect the matching interfaces in this order:

OEM connector → CGRC CAN → Denali CANsmart controller → RDC/DWA module connector.

OEM means the motorcycle’s original equipment connector. Complete the series connection with the power off, then check Wonder Wheel control and normal CANsmart operation after restoring power.

Check the CGRC LIN port limitation

CGRC LIN must connect directly to the motorcycle’s 3-pin navigation interface. It cannot be daisy-chained with another accessory or the BMW Nav Prep cradle.

Check the connection actually occupied by your accessories. A HEX ezCAN installation on RDC or DWA does not by itself occupy the 3-pin navigation interface. See Choose CGRC CAN or CGRC LIN for your BMW for data access and controller combinations.

FAQs

Will this connection give CGRC CAN native BMW data?

CGRC CAN supplies Wonder Wheel control. Native BMW data requires a supported data connection, such as CGRC LIN on a compatible motorcycle.

What if my HEX ezCAN connector does not match this example?

Check the HEX ezCAN instructions for your exact motorcycle and connection, or ask your installer before connecting the adapters. The male and female connector sequence above applies to the documented DWA arrangement.
