Solution: BMW Data Reading Issues
BMW data reading relies on the BMW Nav interface transmitting ECU data to the CHIGEE Display. If the CHIGEE Display powers on or responds to Wonderwheel control but fails to read data, this usually indicates an issue with your BMW ECU or Nav Prep, not the CHIGEE Display.
When does this apply?
if you’re using one of the following connection methods and your BMW is listed as compatible with native data reading:
- AIO-5 Play for BMW plugged directly into BMW Nav Prep
- AIO-6 with BMW Quick-Release Module plugged into BMW Nav Prep
If you're using CGRC LIN connected to the BMW 3-pin Nav port and data cannot be read, it's usually due to limitations of your specific BMW model. Unfortunately, there is no further solution in this case.
Follow the steps below
0. Inspect Your BMW’s Electrical System
Check the overall condition of your motorcycle’s electrical system:
Even small fluctuations in power or unstable ECU signals can cause problems with powering the device or accessing functions like Wonder Wheel control and native data reading.
1. Verify BMW Nav Prep 5/6 Authenticity
Make sure your motorcycle is equipped with an authentic BMW Nav Prep 5 or Nav Prep 6 cradle. Aftermarket or modified cradles may cause power or data communication issues.
2. Check Physical Connections
- Unplug the CHIGEE Display.
- Clean all connection points: Metal contacts on the BMW Prep ; BMW Nav Prep 3-pin connector (male) ; Motorcycle 3-pin connector (female)
- After cleaning, enter the Advanced Dashboard page on your CHIGEE Display. Try gently pressing the Display to apply a bit of extra pressure on the BMW Nav Prep cradle and see if the data can be read.
If applying pressure allows the Display to read the data, it indicates that there may be a contact issue with your BMW Nav cradle. In that case, we recommend considering a replacement of the BMW Nav cradle to ensure stable data transmission.
3. Advanced Diagnostics
Red Standard Interface
If the display shows a red dashboard instead of the blue BMW interface, it means no data is being transmitted from the cradle.
→ Try replacing your BMW Nav cradle or testing your CHIGEE Display on another BMW with a known working Nav Prep.
Blue BMW Interface
If you see the blue BMW interface but still experience issues:
a. No Data Display
→ This suggests the cradle is connected to the ECU but might have poor contact.
→ Try cleaning the contact points thoroughly.
→ If the system consistently fails to read data, please note that for certain models — especially those produced before 2017 — the required BMW data may not be present on the LIN bus. In such cases, even if a BMW Nav 5/6 is installed, the CHIGEE Display cannot access the data. This is a limitation on BMW’s side, and unfortunately, it is beyond our control.
b. Partial Data Display
→ If any data is shown, it confirms both the cradle and CHIGEE Display are functioning properly.
→ Missing data is likely due to your BMW lacking certain sensors.
This is a bike limitation — not a device fault.
