You can install a firmware package from a microSD card to update your CHIGEE Display or go back to an earlier version. Use this method when an update over Wi-Fi fails, or to go back from beta firmware to an earlier official version. To update over Wi-Fi, see Update CHIGEE Display firmware over Wi-Fi.
Before you start
To update the CHIGEE Display firmware from a microSD card, you need the following:
A microSD card: We recommend a 32 GB U3 card from a known brand. The AIO-5 Play and AIO-5 Play for BMW can also use an 8 GB card, but choose a U3 card, because low-quality 8 GB cards can make the update fail.
A computer with a microSD card reader
The firmware package: Open the CHIGEE firmware download folder, choose your model, and download the version you need.
Important: Don't rename the firmware files, and keep the CHIGEE Display powered on until the update finishes.
Update the firmware from a microSD card
To install a firmware package on your CHIGEE Display from a microSD card:
On your computer, unzip (extract) the firmware package.
Insert the microSD card into the CHIGEE Display and tap Settings > Storage > Format SD card. When formatting finishes, remove the card. If the CHIGEE Display doesn't start, format the card on your computer instead, as described in Format the card as FAT32 below.
Insert the card into your computer. Open the extracted firmware folder and copy all the files inside it to the root of the card. Don't copy the .zip file, and don't put the files in a folder.
Safely eject the card from your computer.
With the CHIGEE Display turned off, insert the card.
Turn on the CHIGEE Display. The update starts automatically and takes about 2 minutes. Don't turn off the display during the update.
When the CHIGEE Display restarts, tap Settings > About and check that the firmware version is the one you installed.
If the update doesn't start
If the CHIGEE Display doesn't start the update from the microSD card, check the following:
You copied the extracted files, not the .zip file.
The files are in the root of the card, not in a folder. Delete any extra folders your computer created.
Then turn off the CHIGEE Display, insert the card again and turn the display on.
Format the card as FAT32
If the CHIGEE Display doesn't recognize the microSD card, format the card as FAT32 on your computer. Then copy the extracted firmware files to the root of the card again and retry the update.
On Windows
If Windows doesn't offer FAT32 for your microSD card, which is common with cards larger than 32 GB, use the free tool Rufus:
In Rufus, select your microSD card under Device.
Set Boot selection to Non bootable.
Set File system to FAT32.
Click START.
On macOS
Open Disk Utility and select your microSD card.
Click Erase.
Set Format to MS-DOS (FAT) and click Erase.
