XR-1 clip length, GPS data and video locking

Check the fixed 2-minute clip length, GPS accessory requirement, data overlays and exactly which file a lock press protects.

The XR-1 saves recordings in fixed 2-minute files. You cannot change the clip length. Pressing the Lock button protects the current file, not a fixed period before and after the press.

Understand the 2-minute files

The XR-1 records a longer ride as consecutive files rather than one continuous file. Download and combine clips in a video editor if you want a longer video.

See How does loop recording work on the XR-1? for storage and overwriting behavior.

Which footage does a lock press protect?

The XR-1 locks the entire 2-minute file being recorded when you press Lock. The timing of your press determines how much footage comes before and after it.

  • Press 10 seconds into a clip: the protected file contains 10 seconds before the press and 1 minute 50 seconds after it.

  • Press near the end of a clip: the protected file contains the earlier part of that clip, but only the remaining seconds after the press.

The button press does not automatically lock the neighboring files. Save those separately if the event crosses a clip boundary. See View and save locked XR-1 videos.

Add GPS data and overlays

The XR-1 needs the optional Wired GPS Handlebar Controller to record Global Positioning System (GPS) data. The standard kit does not record GPS data on its own.

Choose video watermarks

In the XR-1 settings in the CHIGEE GO App, use Data Overlay to choose time, speed, and latitude and longitude watermarks. Speed and location data require the GPS controller.
