How does loop recording work on the XR-1?

Understand fixed 2-minute clips, automatic overwriting, and how to protect or combine recordings from a longer ride.

The XR-1 records your ride as consecutive 2-minute video files. The clip length is fixed and cannot be changed. A 2-minute file does not mean recording stops after 2 minutes.

How the XR-1 saves a longer ride

The XR-1 starts another file after each 2-minute segment while recording remains active. When the microSD card becomes full, loop recording overwrites the oldest unlocked files.

A larger compatible card stores more footage before older files are overwritten. The XR-1 supports cards up to 256 GB; card capacity does not change the 2-minute clip length.

To make a longer video, download the clips you need and join them in a video editor. To save a shorter moment, trim a downloaded clip.

Protect footage you want to keep

The XR-1 protects locked clips from loop recording. You can lock footage in these ways:

  • Turn on Collision Lock in the CHIGEE GO App. Choose High, Medium or Low sensitivity; Off disables automatic collision locking.

  • Short-press the Lock button on the XR-1 main unit or optional Wired GPS Handlebar Controller.

  • Lock a saved video during playback in the CHIGEE GO App.

A button press locks the file being recorded at that moment. See XR-1 clip length, GPS data and video locking for examples.

Download important footage promptly. Locking protects against loop overwriting, but formatting the card erases saved files.

If you missed the lock button

Use the event time to find the XR-1 clip in the CHIGEE GO App. A photo taken with the controller or a screenshot of playback can help you identify the time, but does not lock the video.

See View and save locked XR-1 videos to copy the matching file.

When recording stops

The XR-1 needs power, a working microSD card and a connected camera to record. Loop recording cannot prevent recording failures caused by a card or connection problem.

For playback pauses and stopping the dashcam, see Can I turn off recording on the XR-1?.
