How the CHIGEE Display Works: Not a Standalone GPS Device, Not Built-in Offline Navigation
The CHIGEE Display is designed primarily as a smart mirroring device (supporting Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto). It does not feature a standalone, built-in navigation software that functions without a smartphone connection.
However, you can still navigate in areas without cellular service by preparing your phone correctly.
How to Navigate Without Cellular Data (Offline Maps)
If you are riding in areas with poor or no cellular reception, you can use the Offline Maps feature on your smartphone.
Download Maps: Before your trip, download the map data for your intended area using apps like Google Maps, Apple Maps, or other navigation apps that support offline mode.
Connect to CHIGEE: Connect your phone to the CHIGEE unit via CarPlay or Android Auto.
Navigate: The navigation app will run from your phone and display on the CHIGEE screen using the pre-downloaded data.
Note: While using CarPlay or Android Auto, the navigation position (GPS signal) is provided by your phone's GPS receiver, not the Chigee device.
The Role of the CHIGEE GPS Module
Depending on your model, the CHIGEE Display is equipped with either an internal or external GPS module. It is important to understand that this module is not a standalone navigation system.
What the CHIGEE GPS Module DOES:
The onboard GPS is used exclusively for system data and dashboard metrics, such as:
Time & Date: Automatically calibrating the time zone and ensuring accurate time display.
Speedometer: Displaying real-time speed on the dashboard interface.
Odometer: Tracking travel distance for trip recordings.
What the CHIGEE GPS Module DOES NOT Do:
It cannot function as a standalone GPS navigator (like a traditional Garmin or TomTom) without a phone.
It does not replace your phone’s GPS signal for navigation apps (Google Maps/Waze).
It cannot send location data to other devices or apps.
