Troubleshooting GPS Signal Issues (Built-in GPS – AIO-5 Play, AIO-6, XR-2)

If your device is unable to receive a GPS signal or shows a GPS error, please follow the steps below to identify the cause.

Step 1: Update Firmware

Make sure your device is running the latest firmware, as updates may include GPS stability improvements and bug fixes.

Step 2: Check Installation

  • Do not install the Display Unit under metal surfaces or carbon fiber panels, as these block satellite signals.
  • Keep the device away from cameras, wiring, or other electronic components to reduce interference.

Step 3: Allow Time for Acquisition

  • When starting for the first time or after being off for more than 30 minutes (cold start), GPS may take 3–10 minutes to lock on satellites.
  • If restarted within 30 minutes (hot start), the device should connect much faster.

Step 4: Consider the Environment

GPS signal strength depends heavily on surroundings:
  • Good conditions: open outdoor areas with a clear sky view.
  • Weak or no signal: tunnels, underground parking, basements, dense urban areas with tall buildings, during severe weather, or remote wilderness where satellite coverage is limited.

👉 Please distinguish between:

  • Occasional GPS loss in certain areas → usually due to interference or weak coverage in that location. This is not related to the device hardware.
  • No GPS signal anywhere (even in wide-open outdoor areas) → may indicate a problem with the device or GPS module.

Step 5: When to Contact Support

If GPS never works, even after trying the steps above, please provide the following to CHIGEE Support:

  1. A photo of the device home screen showing the GPS icon.
  2. A photo of the GPS status page (Settings → Features → GPS).
  3. A description of where you tested the device (e.g., highway, open field, suburban area, city streets) and confirm that GPS failed to connect in all these locations.

Our support team will review your information and help determine whether the GPS module or device requires replacement.
