XR-1 Dash Cam Quick Start Guide: Installation, Footage Viewing & Optional Upgrade

XR-1 Dash Cam Quick Start Guide: Installation, Footage Viewing & Optional Upgrade

The CHIGEE XR-1 is a screenless smart motorcycle dash cam that records front and rear footage automatically every time you ride. Because it has no screen of its own, you set it up once, tuck it out of sight, and manage everything through the CHIGEE GO app. This guide explains what to prepare before installation, how to install and activate the XR-1, how to view and download your footage, what the status lights mean, and how the optional XR-1 Wired GPS Handlebar Controller adds quick control and ride tracking.

Before You Start

Before installing or using the XR-1, please review the product page and user manual.
A few things to prepare:
  • A microSD card (sold separately). Use a genuine high-speed card rated U3 / A2 / V30 or above, up to 256GB. Low-quality, counterfeit, or below-spec cards can cause recording lag, file loss, or corrupted video.
  • The CHIGEE GO app. The XR-1 must be activated through the app before its features unlock.
  • A power source on your motorcycle. Wiring connects to the battery positive terminal, the ACC terminal, and ground.
NotesNote: "5GHz" on the XR-1 refers to the Wi-Fi band used to transfer video to your phone. It is not a 5G mobile network — the XR-1 has no SIM card, no data plan, and no monthly fees.

What's Included in the Standard XR-1 Kit?

The standard XR-1 kit includes everything needed for front-and-rear recording:
  • XR-1 main unit (host) ×1
  • Cameras ×2 (front and rear)
  • Camera mount clamps ×2 and camera bases ×2
  • Power cable ×1
  • Cable clips ×2, nylon cable ties ×5, and Velcro straps ×2
  • 3M stickers ×4
  • Removal tools ×2 and a CHIGEE sticker ×1
The microSD card and the XR-1 Wired GPS Handlebar Controller are not included and are purchased separately.

Basic Installation Guide

XR-1 installation has three main parts: mounting the cameras, installing the main unit, and wiring for power.
  1. Install the cameras. Mount the front and rear cameras using the included clamps and bases. Use the orientation mark to set the correct direction, and the bendable base to fine-tune the angle. Clean the surface first, then press the 3M VHB adhesive firmly for at least 10 seconds and allow it to cure as directed in the manual before riding. The cameras must remain externally visible so they keep a clear view of the road.
  2. Install the main unit. Place the main unit in a protected spot — such as inside the bike's bodywork — where it stays dry and away from high-heat sources like the engine. Insert a microSD card before sealing the port: press the waterproof plug in until it sits flush, then tighten the T5 screw.
Note: If this port is not sealed correctly, the unit is no longer waterproof. Water damage caused by improper sealing is not covered under warranty. The heatsink also gets hot during operation, so avoid touching it right after a ride.
QuoteWire for power. Following the wiring diagram in the manual, connect the red wire to the battery positive terminal, the yellow wire to the ACC terminal, and the black wire to the battery negative terminal. The kit includes a 3A fuse box for protection. For more detail, see Introduction to Wiring & Power Connection.

Activate and Connect in the CHIGEE GO App

The XR-1 is screenless, so the CHIGEE GO app is where you activate the device, change settings, and watch your footage.
  1. Download and activate. Install the CHIGEE GO app and activate the XR-1. Features stay locked until activation is complete.
  2. Find the device. In the app, select the device named XR1-XXXX — the last four digits of the SN code on the back of the main unit.
  3. Authorize the connection. Short-press the Photo button on the main unit to approve the connection. Phones that have connected before are authorized automatically.
  4. Open the home screen. Once connected, the app opens to the home screen, where you can switch between front and rear view, take a photo, preview full-screen, open the local or device gallery, view riding data, and adjust settings.
NotesNote: The XR-1 transmits its own 5GHz Wi-Fi signal. Stay within about 8–10 meters of the bike to keep a stable connection while previewing or downloading.

Viewing and Downloading Your Footage

You can review XR-1 footage in two ways:
  • Through the app. Connect over the XR-1's 5GHz Wi-Fi link and preview, download, and share clips directly in the CHIGEE GO app, at transfer speeds above 10MB/s.
  • Through the SD card. Remove the microSD card and read it on a computer using a card reader or adapter. Files are saved as standard MP4 and play in most media players. If a file won't open, the free PotPlayer media player is a reliable option.
How your footage is protected:
  • Loop recording keeps recording continuously, overwriting the oldest clips so the card never fills up.
  • Emergency Lock detects a sudden impact or abnormal movement and locks the current clip so loop recording won't overwrite it, helping preserve the footage that matters most. You can also lock a clip yourself with a short press of the Lock button.
  • Parking Guard stays in low-power standby after the engine is off and wakes to record when it senses a knock, tip-over, or impact while you are away from the bike.

Understanding the Status Lights and Voice Alerts

Because the XR-1 has no screen, it communicates through indicator lights on the main unit and through spoken voice prompts.
Indicator lights:
  • White light — Solid: updating. Flashes three times: GNSS signal acquired (requires the optional XR-1 Wired GPS Handlebar Controller). Flashes once: a button press was detected.
  • Red light — Flashing: recording. Solid: needs attention (card not formatted, no card, a camera isn't connected, or another fault).
  • Blue light — Flashing: connecting to your phone. Solid: phone connected.
Voice alerts:
The XR-1 monitors recording status, the SD card, camera connection, and system errors, and speaks up when something needs attention — so you know it's working before you set off. Voice prompts are available in English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
Buttons on the main unit:
  • Lock button — Short press: lock the current clip. Long press (8 seconds): force restart.
  • Photo button — Short press: take a photo. Long press (10 seconds): force-format the SD card.
Maintenance tip: Formatting the SD card about every three months helps keep recording stable.

Optional Upgrade: XR-1 Wired GPS Handlebar Controller

The XR-1 Wired GPS Handlebar Controller is an optional add-on — not part of the standard kit — that gives the screenless XR-1 two things: quick physical control on the handlebar, and GPS-based ride tracking.
With it mounted on the handlebar, you can:
  • Lock a clip or take a photo with a single press, without reaching for your phone — eyes on the road, hands on the bars.
  • Check status at a glance through its indicator light.
For ride tracking, once it is connected to the XR-1:
  • It records your riding track in the background and tags each clip with route, ride time, and distance — automatically.
  • You can retrace every route you have ridden in the CHIGEE GO app.
  • When you export from the app, you can overlay GPS data — speed, location, and route — directly onto your video.
Info
Good to know:
  • No battery. Its cable connects to the XR-1 host and draws power from the motorcycle through the host unit, so there is nothing to charge.
  • Flexible mounting. It fits both handlebar and rearview-mirror positions, with brackets included for either setup, and secures with the supplied 3M adhesive.
  • Built for the elements. It is rated IP69 for protection against rain and washing.
