XR-1 Recording Files, GPS Data, and Video Lock Behavior

Recording Files

The XR-1 saves footage as separate video files, not one continuous file. Each file is 2 minutes long by default, and the recording length cannot be changed in the current firmware.

GPS Data

The XR-1 does not record GPS data on its own. To get GPS information, you need the optional Wired GPS Handlebar Controller. Once connected, GPS information becomes available with your recordings.

How Video Lock Works

When you press the lock button, the XR-1 locks the entire video file currently being recorded — not a fixed time window before and after the button press.
Here is what that means in practice with the 2-minute file length:
  • If you press the lock button 10 seconds into a file, the locked file contains the 10 seconds before your press and the remaining 1 minute 50 seconds after it — the full 2-minute segment.
  • If you press the lock button near the end of a file, the locked file contains everything from the start of that segment up to that point, but only the few remaining seconds after your press, because the segment is about to end.
In other words, how much footage is protected before and after the button press depends on when within the current 2-minute segment you press the button. Only the file being recorded at that moment is locked.
Locking a file helps protect that footage from being overwritten.
