CHIGEE Display will not start in the BMW Nav Prep cradle

Check cradle fit, first-start timing and supported USB power to narrow down a BMW startup problem.

If your CHIGEE Display will not start in a BMW Nav Prep cradle, check its seating and power connection first. These checks apply to the AIO-5 Play for BMW and to an AIO-6 Max or AIO-6 LTE fitted with BMW Quick-Release Module.

Try these fixes first

Check the CHIGEE Display and cradle while parked:

  1. Turn off the motorcycle before removing or refitting the display for these connection checks. Use the release instructions for the exact cradle.

  2. Confirm the display, module and cradle match your supported BMW setup.

  3. Visually inspect accessible contacts for debris, corrosion, damage or bent pins.

  4. Refit and secure the display, then check whether it starts with the motorcycle’s normal power-on sequence.

Important: Do not clean, sand, scrape or modify contacts yourself. Follow official BMW service documentation or consult an authorized BMW service center for maintenance.

If your cradle uses an electrical lock, follow the CHIGEE electromagnetic cradle release instructions or the instructions for the exact BMW keyless part. Electrical unlocking and the power-off contact checks are separate actions.

If startup fails during engine cranking

A display that fails during the first engine start but works on a later power cycle may be affected by a brief voltage drop or cradle power timing. The symptom alone does not identify a hardware fault.

With the display already fitted securely, try this sequence while parked:

  1. Turn on the motorcycle ignition.

  2. Wait 5–10 seconds before starting the engine.

  3. Start the engine and check whether the CHIGEE Display completes startup. Record whether the delay changes the result.

Check battery condition and firmware

A weak battery can make cranking voltage drops worse. Note whether the issue occurs more often in cold weather or whether other electronics restart. Ask a qualified service provider to check the battery or charging system.

Check whether an officially released firmware update is available for your exact CHIGEE Display. An update may include power-management changes, but it is not a guaranteed fix for this symptom.

If the problem continues

A supported USB startup test can help separate the display’s USB and cradle power paths. Use it only if your exact CHIGEE Display supports USB input.

Test supported USB power

  1. Use a known-good USB-A to USB-C cable and a 5 V / 2 A source.

  2. Connect only to the supported port shown in the USB power guide. On AIO-6 Max and AIO-6 LTE, use the side diagnostic USB-C port next to the SD card slot, not the rear main-harness port.

  3. Check whether the display starts. If it fails, record the cable and adapter used and follow the model’s supported power-test instructions.

A successful USB test shows that the display can start through USB; it does not identify which part of the cradle path is faulty. A failed test alone does not establish a hardware fault, and an adapter’s advertised wattage alone does not explain the result.

USB power may be insufficient for cameras or GPS. Follow the linked guide for firmware-update power requirements, then remove the test cable and close the port cover before normal motorcycle use.

Contact us

Contact us with your CHIGEE Display model and firmware if accessible, BMW model and year, cradle and module photos, and completed test results. Tell us whether the installation worked before and whether waiting 5–10 seconds before starting the engine changed the result.

If useful, send a parked video showing the fitted display, ignition-on, engine start and display response. If the display cannot start, you do not need a firmware screenshot.

A known-working compatible cradle or motorcycle test is optional if one is available. You do not need to find another motorcycle or repeat completed checks before contacting us.
