This article applies to the CHIGEE XR-1 dash cam.
The XR-1 is designed to start recording automatically whenever it is powered on, and to keep recording as long as it has power. There is no setting to permanently turn off recording — not on the device, and not in the CHIGEE GO app.
This is intentional. It ensures that if an accident or unexpected incident happens, the XR-1 is already recording, so you don't miss important footage.
Normal Design Behavior
Auto-start: Loop recording begins automatically as soon as power is supplied to the XR-1.
Always-on recording: As long as the XR-1 is powered and the cameras are connected, recording continues in the background.
No permanent stop control: There is no "Stop Recording" toggle on the XR-1 or in the CHIGEE GO app. This is by design, not a missing feature.
Recording Pauses Briefly During App Playback
Since the XR-1 has no screen, footage review is done in the CHIGEE GO app over a direct Wi-Fi connection.
When you open the video preview or playback page in the app, recording pauses temporarily. This prevents conflicts between recording and file access.
Once you exit the preview or playback page, recording resumes automatically. You do not need to restart anything.
Any pause is short-term only and is not a way to disable the dash cam.
How to Fully Stop Recording
If you need to completely stop the XR-1 from recording — for example, during maintenance or storage — there are only two ways:
- Disconnect the camera cable(s) from the XR-1 host unit, or
- Cut power to the XR-1 (turn off the device's power source).
Only unplugging the cameras or powering off the device will fully stop loop recording.
