AIO-6 / AIO-5 Play / XR-2 Black Screen Recovery(Backlight On, But Won’t Boot)

AIO-6 / AIO-5 Play / XR-2 Black Screen Recovery(Backlight On, But Won’t Boot)

If your CHIGEE display shows a backlight when powered on but fails to fully start up, the issue is most likely due to a failed firmware update. In such cases, the system enters a recovery state and cannot complete the boot process.
To resolve this issue, please follow the steps below to recover the device.
Notes
Note: This recovery process requires a Windows PC and cannot be performed using a MacBook.
Applies to: AIO-6 Max / AIO-6 LTE / AIO-5 Play / AIO-5 Play for BMW / XR-2.

Step 1: Download and Open the USB Recovery Tool

Step 2: Enter USB Download Mode

    1. Prepare a USB Type-C cable and connect it to your Windows PC.
    2. On the CHIGEE Display unit, press and hold the lock button (located on the right side of the screen).
    3. While holding the button, plug the Type-C cable into the CHIGEE Display. Keep holding the button. The device will enter USB download mode once detected by your PC.

Step 3: Confirm USB Recognition on Windows

    1. On your Windows PC, open Device Manager: – Press Windows + X and select Device Manager, or – Search for “Device Manager” in the Start menu.
    2. In Device Manager, expand Disk Drives.
    3. Once you see GCREADER USB Device appear under Disk Drives, release the lock button.
    4. The device is now ready for firmware flashing.

    Step 4: Flash the Firmware

    1. In the USBDownloadTool window, click Upgrade Firmware.
    2. Wait for the progress bar to complete — this usually takes around 4 minutes.
    3. When you see Reset displayed, the flashing process is complete.

    Step 5: Restart the Device

    1. Unplug the Type-C cable from the CHIGEE Display.
    2. Wait for about 10 seconds.
    3. Reconnect the cable and power on the device.
    4. The CHIGEE Display should now boot up normally.

If the Tool Keeps Disconnecting (Likely Insufficient Power)

Symptom: During restore, the device repeatedly disconnects/reconnects and the tool cannot finish.
Likely cause: Your PC’s USB port cannot supply stable voltage during recovery (common with some laptops/desktop front-panel ports or hubs). Using a stronger, stable power source fixes the dropouts.

Use the bike’s battery (via the OEM cradle or power harness) to provide stable power and connect a USB-C cable to your computer for the restore.

    You’ll need

    • Your motorcycle with ignition ON
    • A known-good USB-C data cable (avoid hubs/adapters)
    • Your Windows laptop with the restore tool ready

    Steps

    1. Power from the bike: Dock the device on the BMW Nav cradle or the battery power harness, then turn ignition ON so the mount outputs power.
    2. Add the data link: Connect USB-C from the device to your PC.
    3. Run the tool again: Start the USB recovery tool and complete the restore.
    4. Finish: When done, disconnect USB-C, power-cycle the device, and verify normal boot.
Why it works: The bike’s battery provides stable supply, while USB-C carries data only, preventing brown-outs that cause PC disconnects.

    Important Notes
